The Review Process
Following receipt of a new manuscript, the manuscript will be assigned to an Editorial board who will be responsible for managing the peer review process. Each manuscript will be reviewed by one reviewer who is highly competent and recognized in the particular field of the submitted manuscript. Typically, a 2-week deadline is given to complete the review. After receipt of the reviews, a decision is made to either accept, give the authors an opportunity to revise or to reject the manuscript. Revised manuscripts are typically re-evaluated by the same reviewers. Depending upon this evaluation, the manuscript may be accepted or rejected.

Grounds for Declining a Manuscript
A manuscript may be declined if the study was judged as too preliminary in nature or was in an inappropriate scientific area. Manuscripts may be rejected if the findings are not sufficiently novel or do not contain enough new information.

Authorship Criteria
An author should have participated in either the conception or planning of the work, the interpretation of the results and the writing of the paper. An acknowledgment accompanying the paper is appropriate recognition for others who have contributed to a lesser extent. The signature of each author on the Affirmation of Originality and Copyright Release form that must be submitted with the manuscript indicates that all authors have had a part in the writing and final editing of the report and all are prepared to take public responsibility for the work, sharing responsibility and accountability for the results. Potential conflicts of interest should be described when submitting manuscripts.

Authorship Obligations
The obligation of an author is to present a clear, honest, accurate, and complete account of the research performed. Each manuscript should describe a complete study or a completed phase of an extended study.

Conflict of Interest
Special care is taken to assure that the authors' views are balanced and unencumbered, and that the Acta Medica Bulgarica policies on disclosure of conflicts of interest are implemented. It is the policy of the Journal to ensure objectivity and scientific rigor in the Journal. All authors are expected to disclose to the readers any conflict(s) of interest such as relationships with pharmaceutical companies, biomedical device manufacturers, etc.

If there are no conflicts of interest, the authors should clearly state this also. All funding, whether a conflict or not, must be declared in a funding statement.

Obligations of Reviewers
The reviewer should strive to provide accurate, detailed, and constructive criticisms, and the review should be supported by appropriate references, especially if unfavorable. The reviewer should also note whether the work of others is properly cited.

Obligations of Editors
The Editorial board directs and supervises the policies of a journal and is responsible for maintaining its scientific and literary quality. The first obligation of the Editorial board is to make certain that all authors receive confidential, expert, critical, and unbiased reviews of their work in a timely fashion.
