<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"><p>Research into small mammals and their ectoparasites was carried out in the Belianske Tatras during 2010–14, evaluating flea communities found on small mammals on the basis of species richness, abundance and level of infestation. Flea infestation of host species occurred mostly in <italic>C. glareolus</italic> with the highest infestation rates recorded in <italic>S. alpinus</italic>, the earlier mentioned <italic>C. glareolus</italic>, <italic>N. anomalus</italic> and <italic>N. fodiens</italic>. Based on their prevalence in all the examined hosts, the most frequent flea communities found were <italic>M. turbidus</italic>, <italic>C. agyrtes</italic>, <italic>A. penicilliger</italic> and <italic>P. soricis</italic>. In addition, flea prevalence in all the captured host species was evaluated. The most frequent flea communities were <italic>M. turbidus</italic>, <italic>P. soricis</italic> and <italic>D. dasycnema</italic> (8 host species); <italic>C. agyrtes</italic> and <italic>H. orientalis</italic> (7); <italic>A. penicilliger</italic> and <italic>P. bidentata</italic> (4); <italic>C. uncinatus</italic>, <italic>P. sylvatica</italic> and <italic>R. integela</italic> (3); and <italic>M. rectangulatus</italic>, <italic>N. fasciatus</italic> and <italic>C. bisoctodentatus</italic> (2), while <italic>A. nuperus</italic> and <italic>A. arvicolae</italic> were recorded in only one host species.</p></abstract>
