Sustainability in Academic Cooperation: Within and Beyond Visegrad Borders

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> The paper includes overview of the current state of the EU-CIS and the EU-Russia trade flows with particular attention to trade in agricultural commodities, as well as contemporary tendencies in agricultural production and foreign trade in agricultural commodities and food in Russia. The paper specifically addresses the possible effects of the trade restrictions between the EU and Russia, particularly the imposed ban on agricultural trade, on the Visegrad countries. The paper is concluded with an overview of the expected influences of the trade tensions on Russia’s domestic agricultural market, including consumers, producers, and retailers.</abstract>

Trade Tensions Between EU and Russia: Possible Effects on Trade in Agricultural Commodities for Visegrad Countries

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> The purpose of the research is to study the role of Euroregions in the provision of sustainable development of border regions of Ukraine on the basis of the analysis of European experience and the research of Ukrainian practice. The paper describes the development of transboundary cooperation in Europe, the peculiarities of the integration processes in the Euroregions, shows the development of Euroregions in Ukraine: „Carpatskyj“, „Bug“, „Nyzhnij Dunaj“, „Dniester“, „Verhnij Prut“, „Dnieper“, „Slobozhanshchyna“, „Yaroslavna“, defines their composition and structure, describes the basic functioning problems, such as low level of social and economic development in comparison with other (central) regions, the peripheral nature of economics, the presence of “a zone of potential political exertion“; the distance from the inner sources of regional security forms their focus on foreign economic cooperation, which makes them fragile to the dynamics of trade and economic relations of Ukraine with the neighbouring countries. The map of attraction of the regions of Ukraine into the European regions is made, in particular the regions that are proposed to be included in the composition of European regions for activation of transboundary cooperation are selected, and the proposed scenarios for the development of relations of Ukraine with the neighbouring countries are created.</abstract>

Euroregion as a Tool for Sustainable Development of Border Areas: The European Experience and Ukrainian Features

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> Dairy animal industry is one of the leading industries of animal production and an important line of many agricultural enterprises activity of the Belgorod region. In essence, its efficiency and competitiveness depend on many certain features of the regional market. The research object is dairy industry in the Belgorod region. The aim of the research was to study the state of the dairy cattle in the Belgorod region and to identify the major reserves of milk production increase on the basis of expected resource balances. The research is connected with the definition of the used branch resources balance. It will allow the definition of the directions of the branch efficiency increase. The practical value of the work is based on an estimation of the branch resources which should help to define the necessary quantity of milk, sufficient for manufacture of dairy products for internal dairy consumption. The Definition of Reserves to Increase Milk Production on the Basis of Forecast Supply Balances

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> The Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia is a country with huge interest in accession to the great family of the European Union, which now counts about 500 million people. The paper aims to explain this interest and to give detailed arguments to all the expectations, by focusing on the process of accession of the country to the European Union and giving examples of other countries‘ similar efforts from wider region. This process represents the culmination of more than two decades of economic, social and political transformation of the country. The membership in the European Union, according to the theoretical knowledge and comparative experience, should bring convenience for Macedonia and its citizens, including prosperity, more intensive relations with its European neighbours and contribution to shaping the political, social and economic development of Europe. The accession process is long and difficult, partly because of the necessity to adopt many laws and regulations of the European Union for new member states, contained in the Acquis communautaire.</abstract>

Challenges of EU Accession for Macedonia and Ukraine: Selected View from Inside Europe and Outside Visegrad

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> Within the sector of fruit growing, climate change related tasks cover a rather wide range of activities. According to what is claimed by the literature, all decisions impacting the sector should be made conformably with climate change in order to advance an increase in yield security. This, regardless of the impacts of climate change, is also one of the key questions in fruit growing. Regarding protection against extreme weather events, in addition to technological and technical elements, the level of importance assumed by farmers for the above-mentioned protection techniques as well as the type and extent they intend to use in practice are also worth of studying. This ongoing research began in 2009 and focuses mainly on studying the opinions of fruit farmers making up the target group for this analysis. The questionnaire survey primarily intends to study their knowledge on the definition of climate change as reactivity to unfavourable weather events occurring in the growing. Additionally, we tried to get answers to the following questions: Do the studied human factors (age, educational level, sex etc.) of growers determine the extension of innovation of fruit production?</abstract>

Producers’ Reaction to Climate Change in the Fruit Production Sector from the Point of View of Growers

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> Sodic areas can be found in every continent. The main condition of the salt accumulation in sodic soils is the near-surface groundwater. There is a serious environmental problem in the Danube-Tisza Interfluve which threatens the natural alkaline lakes and sodic areas with landscape destruction. The aim of this study is to collect information about the seasonal geochemical cycles in the sediments of Lake Fehér. Based on the results of this research, the protection of the similar alkaline wetlands could be more effective. The study area was an alkaline lake system sorrounded by sodic areas called Lake Fehér by Szeged. The investigation was carried out in three periods based on the seasonal distribution of precipitation. There were eight sampling dates on the same site during one meteorological year. For the short-term monitoring, the type of the soil, the particle content, the pH and the EC were investigated. The groundwater and precipitation data of the last century were used for the long-term observation. The results show that the precipitation decreased in the southern part of the Danube-Tisza Interfluve in the last 100 years. Along with the decreasing precipitation, the groundwater level has been sinking. Knowing the dynamics of the area, the problem could be managed; otherwise, the ecosystems of the alkaline lakes will vanish.</abstract>

Alkaline Lake System in Danube and Tisza Interfluve (Szeged, Hu) – Climate Change and Landscape Degradation

<abstract xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"> The goal of this research work is the formation of methodological approach of ecological factor assessment impact on the development level of territorial economic systems. This article presents the quality indicators of the development of socio-economic areas, which reflect total level and the extent of human impact on the natural environment characterizing the level of economy influence (economic activities) on the environment. This article suggests the approach to the calculation of Eco-intensity indicator and general air pollution dynamics in Ukraine, regarding regions, type of economic activities/industries. The research studies the comparative evaluation and the characteristics of the ecological status of the territories. It was determined that for the period from 2005 till 2012 the emissions of pollutants into the atmosphere from stationary and mobile pollution sources are being gradually reduced due to the decreasing level of production enterprises, which were the main polluters of the atmosphere. According to the types of economic activity, the measurements of Eco-intensity emissions of pollutants and carbon dioxide indicated that the biggest indices were in energy distribution, mining and processing industries.</abstract>
