Sustainable Mobility refers to ‘people’s ability to access economic and social opportunities while minimizing the environmental impact of their movement and activities’. Sustainable Mobility is a new fully Open Access double-blind peer-reviewed journal that provides a forum for the publication and exchange of innovative social science research on sustainable mobility.

Our key aim is to make Sustainable Mobility the premier journal contributing a human-centric, social science understanding of the sustainability transition for mobility; providing a vital forum for the exchange of ideas and promotion of interaction between academics, policymakers and stakeholders in the field of sustainable mobility. By integrating theory, policy and practice, rigour and topicality, we seek to bring together academic and practitioner communities in an exciting and engaging dialogue.

To promote engagement with sustainable mobility research in the widest possible way, we have adopted a Gold Open Access publishing model, without Article Processing Charges or submission charges, to maximise the reach of the journal; whilst our ‘continuous publication’ model of publishing will ensure the timely publication of research on issues that are of topical significance. To this end, Sustainable Mobility publishes four types of contribution – original articles, policy perspectives, case studies and book reviews – to maximise the breadth of contribution and debate offered on sustainable mobility.

Transport systems worldwide are a major – and growing – contributor to global CO2 emissions. Moreover, the continued trend of urbanisation, especially in the parts of the world with large populations and growing economies, is resulting in damage to local environmental quality and the undermining of economic and social opportunities. With Innovative sustainable mobility solutions are urgently required to tackle the negative impact of transport systems, whilst promoting a more environmentally, economically and socially sustainable future.

Submissions to Sustainable Mobility can draw on any social science discipline; they can relate to any mode of mobility for which sustainable solutions are sought and they can address single or multi-scalar challenges. They should provide clear links between theory, practice and policy; and be accessible to a wide readership. Contributions from other disciplines, but which provide a clear connection with social science questions, are also very welcome.

Sustainable Mobility publishes one issue per year in a continuous model.
