Folia Oecologica is an international scientific open access journal publishes peer-reviewed, original research on forest ecology science. While the emphasis is on forest ecosystems, the journal covers a wide range of topics from the underlying biology to the conservation aspects of forest and nature. It is a continuation of the journal Folia dendrologica published within the years 1974–1997. The journal publishes full-text papers, short communications and review articles. All submitted manuscripts are reviewed by two independent reviewers. There are no article processing charges. The owner and publisher of the journal is the Institute of Forest Ecology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences. In addition to online publishing, print copies of the journal are also offered.
We will consider articles that comply with our Instructions for Authors, and they must offer a distinct, novel contribution to the research literature. This might be a methodological innovation, a contribution to theory, improved understanding of processes or principles, or insightful analysis which reveals gaps in our understanding, policies or practice of ecosystem ecology, environmental sciences, forest ecology, nature conservation. Research papers should clearly outline an existing knowledge gap and articulate how the findings address this deficit, including the practical implications for all ecosystems where trees, shrubs and herbs found in forest ecosystems can grow.

An international journal, Folia Oecologica, previously known as Folia dendrologica, has extended its scientific scope to include more complex ecological issues.
It provides readers with the current advacement in theoretical and applied ecology in Europe and around the world, a topic that has taken on increasing importance worldwide.
The editorial team aims to steadily improve the scientific value of the journal.
Almost a half-century journal, its first volume appeared in 1974. The issues are available upon request.

To publish in Folia Oecologica, authors are not required to pay an Article Processing Charge.
