The Journal of Committee of Mechanical Engineering of Polish Academy Of Sciences

Advances in Manufacturing Science and Technology offers an international publication forum for new ideas, insights and results related to manufacturing science and technology. The journal publishes original research papers and brief communiqués addressing topics at the forefront of manufacturing new science technologies. Emphasis is placed on the multi-disciplinary nature of the field. This will help readers wishing to become acquainted with related subjects through exposure to information on various aspects of materials research. The increasing spread of information on these subjects aids in shedding light on relevant topics about new technological materials and on processes beyond the scope of readers’ own core specialties.

We want Advances in Manufacturing Science and Technology to be a medium for papers on innovations not covered by journals devoted to either applied engineering or fundamental science.

The Editorial board appreciate the importance of ‘impact factor’ in authors’ choice of journal , but it can be seen from the high calibre of the Editorial Advisory Board members, the Editors themselves and, not least in having Sciendo as the publisher, that AMST will rapidly grow to be a major force in manufacturing science and technology topics.

Advances in Manufacturing Science and Technology publishes fundamental papers on:

  • Manufacturing processes, production equipment and automation, product design and manufacturing systems,
  • Welding, joining, machining, cutting etc,
  • Rapid prototyping, rapid manufacturing - 3-D fabrication techniques,
  • Manufacturing process monitoring, control and automation,
  • High temperature materials production, materials degradation and their characteristics,
  • Heat and mass transfer in alloys and steels,
  • Continuum process modeling and simulation,

and others.

Papers submitted for publication should contain new experimental or theoretical results and their interpretation. Both laboratory and industrial practice fall within the scope of the journal.

General information

1. Original articles to the journal of Advances in Manufacturing Science and Technology, AMST, are invited.

2. Submission of an article implies that the work described has not been published previously, that it is not under consideration for publication elsewhere, that its publication is approved by all authors and tacitly or explicitly by the responsible authorities where the work was carried out, and that, if accepted, it will not be published elsewhere in the same form, in English or in any other language, including electronically without the written consent of the copyright-holder. To verify originality, your article may be checked by the originality detection service Crossref Similarity Check.

3. The authors should ensure that they have written entirely original works, and if the authors have used the work and/or words of others, that this has been appropriately cited or quoted and permission has been obtained where necessary. Proper acknowledgment of the work of others must always be given. Authors should cite publications that have influenced the reported work and that give the work appropriate context within the larger scholarly record. Information obtained privately, as in conversation, correspondence, or discussion with third parties, must not be used or reported without explicit, written permission from the source. Plagiarism takes many forms, from ‘passing off’ another’s paper as the author’s own paper, to copying or paraphrasing substantial parts of another’s paper (without attribution), to claiming results from research conducted by others. Plagiarism in all its forms constitutes unethical behavior and is unacceptable.

4. Articles are restricted to 12 manuscript pages. Longer articles will be subjected to a delay in publication.

5. The language of the journal is English (American or British usage is accepted, but not a mixture of these).

6. Articles must be submitted exclusively to AMST on the understanding that they have not been and will not be published elsewhere. Articles accepted for publication become the copyright of the AMST. The Editors retain the right to modify the style and length of a contribution (major changes being agreed with the main author).

7. It should be indicated who is the main (corresponding) author with full name and mailing address. The main author is responsible for ensuring that the article has been seen and approved by all the other authors. The covering letter accompanying the manuscript should be signed by all the other authors to this effect.

8. Written permission from the copyright holder must be obtained to reproduce material from other sources.

9. Materials taken from other sources must be accompanied by a written statement from both author and publisher giving permission to AMST for reproduction.

Review process

1. Manuscripts are evaluated on the basis that they present new insights to the investigated topic, are likely to contribute to a research progress. It is understood that all authors listed on a manuscript have agreed to its submission. The signature of the corresponding author on the letter of submission signifies that these conditions have been fulfilled.

Received manuscripts are first examined by the Editors of AMST. Manuscripts with insufficient priority for publication are rejected promptly. Incomplete packages or manuscripts not prepared in the advised style will be sent back to authors without scientific review. The authors are notified with the reference number upon manuscript registration at the Editorial Office. The registered manuscripts are sent to independent experts for scientific evaluation. We encourage authors to suggest the names of possible reviewers, but we reserve the right of final selection. Submitted papers are accepted for publication after a positive opinion of the independent reviewers.

2. This journal operates a single blind review process (the identities of the Authors are known for the reviewers, however the Authors do not know the reviewer name). All contributions will be initially assessed by the editor for suitability for the journal. Papers deemed suitable are then typically sent to a minimum of one independent expert reviewer to assess the scientific quality of the paper. The Editor is responsible for the final decision regarding acceptance or rejection of articles. The Editor's decision is final.

Presentation of the manuscript

1. Type the manuscript on A4 (297x210 mm) paper with margins of at least 3 cm all round. Use double spacing throughout. It is not required to leave empty space for figures and tables.

2. Use the subheadings to divide the text into sections and, where necessary, subsections.

3. The title page should carry: the title, the authors names, their affiliation and address of each of them, up to six key words to assist cross-indexing.

4. An abstract of no more than 150 words should state the purposes of the study, procedures, findings and conclusions.

5. The font name should be Times New Roman and the size 12 in the whole manuscript.

6. The structure of the paper should be as follows:

  • Abstract (a few sentences giving an insight about the motivation of performing of present work and brief summary of findings should be given here),
  • Introduction (a background of the topic with proper references should be written here. At the end of introduction a motivation for performing present investigation should be given),
  • Experimental (all descriptions of used materials, techniques of profiles production, parameters of manufacturing, as well as the detail information about the cross-sections production process, and all details of post-exposure analytical methods (e.g. backward extrusion, kind of microscopy involved in microstructure characterization, hardness measurement etc.) should be given here),
  • Results and discussion (all obtained results should be presented and widely discussed with or without proper references),
  • Conclusions (a list of conclusions formulated base on findings obtained in the frame of present work should be listed),
  • Acknowledgment (optional),
  • References (list of references cited in the article).

    Mathematical formulae and units

    1. Notation should be kept as simple as possible for the ease of typesetting. Clarify where necessary: subscripts and superscripts, vectors and special fonts. Explain all symbols used. A full list of symbols with adequate units (SI) should be supplied on a separate sheet. Equations should be numbered consecutively and the number given in parentheses at the right hand margin.

    2. Use the SI system of units throughout. If necessary a unit can be followed by its non-SI equivalent in brackets.

    3. Abbreviations should be used sparingly and given in full at first mention (e.g. "computer aided design (CAD)").

    Illustrations and tables

    1. Number all illustrations (including computer printouts and listings) in one sequence. Attach a label to the back of each giving its number, the authors name. Where possible, illustrations should fit within the print area of 125x190 mm.

    2. Line drawings and graphs should be professionally prepared; freehand or typewritten labeling is not acceptable. Submit them as glossy black and white prints. All lines and labels should be clear and of sufficient size to be legible when reduced for publication.

    3. Photographs should be supplied as top quality glossy prints.

    4. Computer printouts will be reproduced photographically. To give good quality reproduction they need to be original printouts on plain white paper, printed in near letter quality (NLQ) or when possible with a laser printer. Always print programs unjustified, in a typeface with a fixed character width.

    5. If artwork is supplied electronically, only the formats below should be used: line drawings 1000 dpi accepted in Freehand, Illustrator (EPS files), Photoshop (EPS, TIFF, JPEG, GIF) and Corel Draw (Illustrator). Halftones to be supplied at 3000 dpi minimum in Photoshop as EPS, TIFF or JPEG with fonts embedded. In all cases, they should be reduced to fit column width of 125 mm.

    6. Tables should be typed double spaced on separate sheets. Do not submit tables as photographs. Number tables consecutively in the order of their first citation in the text and supply a brief title for each.


    References should be numbered consecutively in the order in which they are first mentioned in the text. Identify citations of references in text, tables and legends using numbers in square brackets (e.g. "as discussed by Kowalski [7]"). In the reference list use the style of the examples below. When there are four or more authors list only the first one and "et al.".

    Proof correction

    Corresponding authors will receive an e-mail with a corrected manuscript for their verification. We will do everything possible to get your article published quickly and accurately. Please use this proof only for checking the typesetting, editing, completeness and correctness of the text, tables and figures. Significant changes to the article as accepted for publication will only be considered at this stage with permission from the Editor. It is important to ensure that all corrections are sent back to Editor by email. Please check carefully before replying, as inclusion of any subsequent corrections cannot be guaranteed.
