Introduction Strenuous exercise leads to increased generation of free radicals which can cause oxidative damage to proteins, lipids and nucleic acids and consequently result in a detrimental impact on individual’s health ( Teixeira et al., 2009 ). A growing number of chronic conditions, such as neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases and cancer may be linked to overproduction of free radicals (Peternelj and Coombes, 2011).
