Introduction Strenuous exercise leads to increased generation of free radicals which can cause oxidative damage to proteins, lipids and nucleic acids and consequently result in a detrimental impact on individual’s health ( Teixeira et al., 2009 ). A growing number of chronic conditions, such as neurodegenerative and cardiovascular diseases and cancer may be linked to overproduction of free radicals (Peternelj and Coombes, 2011). In order to minimize the deleterious impact of oxidative stress, enzymatic and non-enzymatic antioxidants are strategically located
