Using Big Data for Online Advertising Without Wastage: Wishful Dream, Nightmare or Reality?

Abstract

Big data contains lots of information about consumers and allows companies real-time and data-assisted decision making to gain significant competitive advantages. Digital advertising is an important application for tailoring services to individual needs. Customized advertising is expected to be more effective, cost less, and better received by society. But what looks deceptively simple when it succeeds is frequently quite difficult to implement in practice. It is difficult to judge and validate the quality of automatically generated data. And besides quality, there are other aspects that make it tricky to determine the value of the data. A reasonable price for data depends on the context of its application and the potential cost savings it generates. And not only the price per impression is unclear. The number of contacts is also less obvious than it seems at first glance. Primarily third party data providers often incur problems with the monetization of big data and many are struggling to survive. They depend on the fairness of the data buyer and a successful business model has yet to be developed.

Fuzzy Bio-Inspired Hybrid Techniques for Server Consolidation and Virtual Machine Placement in Cloud Environment

Abstract

Cloud computing technology has transformed the information and communication technology industry by authorizing on-demand resource delivery to the cloud users. Datacenters are the major resource storage places from where the resources are disseminated to the requesters. When several requests are received by datacenters, the available resources are to be handled in an optimized way; otherwise the datacenters suffer from resource wastage. Virtualization is the technology that helps the cloud providers to handle several requests in an optimized way. In this regard, virtual machine placement, i.e., the process of mapping virtual machines to physical machines is considered to be the major research issue. In this paper, we propose to apply fuzzy hybrid bio-inspired meta-heuristic techniques for solving the virtual machine placement problem. The cuckoo search technique is hybridized with the fuzzy ant colony optimization and fuzzy firefly colony optimization technique. The experimental results obtained show competing performance of the proposed algorithms.

LEAN Production issues in the organization of the company - the first stage

Abstract

Today’s market determinants and most importantly, very dynamically changing customer requirements significantly shortened the product life cycle. This situation reflects in companies by common extension of the assortment offered and personalised serial production. The result of a flexible approach to market changes is the implementation of LEAN concept, which, both in terms of management and production aims to develop efficiency within an organisation, which will then enable quick and dynamic response to changes in the environment. The popularity of LEAN concept (in management and production) among managers comes from its universality and a wide range of instruments used to maximise the use of existing potential. The main assumptions of LEAN concept are aimed at the maximum use of an organisation’s resources, defining the activities necessary to execute an order and identifying the areas generating losses and then minimising them and eventually eliminating. LEAN concept is based on flagship-main tools for identification and modernisation of processes, the difficulty in using them results from the need to recognise and select the most effective ones that meet the expectations of a given organisation. The article presents issues related to the first stage of implementing LEAN concept in a company’s structures, i.e. identification of opportunities and selection of appropriate tools.

Simple Clustering for Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

Traditional Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are designed for connecting pure electronic or mechanical sensors through wireless communication. Nowadays, WSNs are combined with other technologies like big data and cloud for data management. While combining the sensors (low level devices) with a high end network like Internet, data communication should be taken care of in the gateway between these two networks. With this type of WSNs, if all the sensors are in direct communication with the high end network, then a lot of energy will be consumed, requiring complex protocols for making this communication possible. So, to reduce the energy wastage, the clustering concept is used in WSN. Although so many complex and innovative clustering techniques are available for WSN, this paper describes a very simple clustering technique for environmental monitoring WSN with proven results.

Theoretical Investigations for the Verification of Shear Centre and Deflection of Sigma Section by Back Propagation Neural Network Using Python

Abstract

The most important challenges in the construction field is to do the experimentation of the designing at real time. It leads to the wastage of the materials and time consuming process. In this paper, an artificial neural network based model for the verification of sigma section characteristics like shear centre and deflection are designed and verified. The physical properties like weight, depth, flange, lip, outer web, thickness, and area to bring shear centre are used in the model. Similarly, weight, purlin centres with allowable loading of different values used in the model for deflection verification. The overall average error rate as 1.278 percent to the shear centre and 2.967 percent to the deflection are achieved by the model successfully. The proposed model will act as supportive tool to the steel roof constructors, engineers, and designers who are involved in construction as well as in the section fabricators industry.

Review of Printed Fabric Pattern Segmentation Analysis and Application

Abstract

Image processing of digital images is one of the essential categories of image transformation in the theory and practice of digital pattern analysis and computer vision. Automated pattern recognition systems are much needed in the textile industry more importantly when the quality control of products is a significant problem. The printed fabric pattern segmentation procedure is carried out since human interaction proves to be unsatisfactory and costly. Hence, to reduce the cost and wastage of time, automatic segmentation and pattern recognition are required. Several robust and efficient segmentation algorithms are established for pattern recognition. In this paper, different automated methods are presented to segregate printed patterns from textiles fabric. This has become necessary because quality product devoid of any disturbances is the ultimate aim of the textile printing industry.

The Importance of Human Resource Planning in Industrial Enterprises

Abstract

Human resource planning in the business practice should represent generally used and key activity for human resource management because human resource planning helps to make optimum utilisation of the human resources in the enterprise and it helps to avoid wastage of human resources. Human resource planning allows to forecast the future manpower requirements and also to forecast the number and type of employees who will be required by the enterprise in a near future. In the long term period, success of any enterprise depends on whether the right people are in the right places at the right time, which is the nature of human resource planning. The aim of this contribution is to explain the importance of human resource planning and to outline results of questionnaire survey which it was realized in industrial enterprises.

Implementation of the SMED method in a production enterprise

Abstract

The increase in competitiveness between production enterprises results from the contemporary conditions of the global economy. Technical progress, globalization and constantly increasing customer requirements contribute to the development of organizational and business management techniques. The improvement of production is currently accompanied by modern tools and methods of Lean Manufacturing concepts such as: SMED, 5S, Kaiznen, Kanban, Poka-Yoke etc. The SMED method plays an important role in improving production processes. It also affects the reduction of losses and wastage, increase of value for stakeholders (especially for customers), as well as better motivation for employees. Thanks to the SMED method, the production company is able to achieve greater efficiency and productivity, as well as the high quality of products and services provided.
