Taxonomy and food plants of Bombus simillimus SMITH (Hymenoptera: Apidae) from the Indian Himalaya

Abstract

Bombus simillimus SMITH is a west Himalayan species, known only from Pakistan and India. In the Indian Himalaya this species is restricted to Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. So far, it has never been recorded from other regions. Its females (workers) can be recognized by the chocolate brown pubescence of the metasomal terga 1 and 2. The colour pattern of the queen is very distinct, with the whole body coloured black except for the last two metasomal terga, which are brick-red. In Kashmir Himalaya it is widespread around the lower mountain coniferous forest and was found foraging heavily on Trifolium pratense, Lavatera cashmeriana, Carduus spp. and Cirsium spp. Being very common and having a very wide distributional range, it is associated with a sizeable number of host plants. Due emphasis has been laid on its detailed taxonomic descriptions, synonymy, host plants, distribution pattern and illustration. Thirty-five food plants of this species have been recorded from the study areas.

Taxonomic Analysis of Differentiation of Situations on Local Labor Markets in the Pressure Area of Chopin Airport in Warsaw as a Method for Regional Development Management

Summary

Subject and purpose of work: Recently, research into the impact of air transport on the situation on local labor markets has been of great practical importance. These issues have become a source of interest in the study. The purpose of the article is an attempt to use taxonomic methods to analyze the spatial diversity of counties located in the catchment area (100 km) of Warsaw Chopin Airport due to the situation on local labor markets.

Materials and methods: Taxonomic methods were used as the research tool. The text also presents the methodology for identifying statistical units located in these areas, indicated by the Geostatistics Portal.

Results: The conducted process allowed to assess the impact of air transport on the economic situation on the local labor market due to the indicators selected for the study. The proposed method is a new, effective, useful and modern approach to obtaining and analyzing statistical data for the areas of influence of Polish airports. It should also be emphasized that it constitutes a certain contribution of the author to the development of research on the impact of air transport on the socio-economic development of regions.

Conclusions: The analysis allowed us to generally illustrate the spatial inequalities of the units selected for testing due to the adopted measures.

Abstract

Bony Fishes from the Late Miocene and Pliocene Strata of Popovo Locality (Ukraine): Taxonomic Changes and Their Palaeoecological Explanation. Kovalchuk, О. М. - Th e present paper deals with results of studying of the fossil fish remnants from the Late Miocene and Pliocene strata of Popovo locality (Southern Ukraine). Our aim was to show local taxonomic changes in freshwater fish communities through-out the specified range of geological time. Twenty seven species of the 20 genera, 6 families (Cyprinidae, Cobitidae, Siluridae, Salmonidae, Esocidae, Percidae) and 5 orders (Cypriniformes, Siluriformes, Salmoniformes, Esociformes, Perciformes) were identified from the 4 heterochronous bonyferous layers. Basing on taxonomic richness, diversity, complexity and similarity of communities, it can be assumed, that changes in their qualitative and quantitative composition were caused by hydrological regime transformation, palaeogeographical alterations and also local taphonomic features.
