Video surveillance systems are well established tools for monitoring important areas and detecting abnormal situations. In places such as one way road or tunnel, airport arrival gate, subway entry gate etc. it is important to monitor the direction of movement and to detect those which are prohibited. If the event is detected in the same time when the situation happens, a fast reaction can fix the problem (turning on the red light to prevent cars from entering the tunnel, sending security force to stop and search the suspect etc.). In the article a working system which is able to detect movement in prohibited direction is presented. The algorithm proved a very good detection rate for tested movie sequences. By optimizing various aspects of the algorithm a real-time efficiency (30fps) for 640×480 resolution frames is achieved.

This article presents selected results of work concerning the errors modeling of helmet-mounted cueing systems used for guided weapon and opto-electronic surveillance systems target homing (for realizing aircraft search and rescue actions). There were described algorithms of helmet angular position determination on the basis of inertial and magnetic methods, moreover, the possibilities of their modification. On this background there were presented the authorial method of pilot’s helmet angular position determination dedicated for helmet-mounted cueing systems for fighter helicopters. The method is based on the pilot’s helmet and aircraft body linear accelerations measurements, which then are used for the current quaternion evaluation to describe the helmet position relatively to the aircraft. Simulation models were tested in Matlab-Simulink and Borland C++ computational packages for various pilot’s helmet space orientation using specialized rotation test stands.

In the last years considerable emphasis has been placed on safety at sea. There is the maritime security and surveillance system whose main aim is to execute tasks in the interests of maritime safety and to react in case of emergency. They are monitored by networks of radar stations. On such areas we obtain a lot of navigation data which could be used to improve ship’s parameters (position), using know in geodesy modern M-estimation methods. Simultaneous acquisition of navigational information from many independent radar stations will render it possible to obtain a more accurate ship position in marine traffic surveillance systems in relation to the calculated position. A position expected in an adjustment calculus is received from a watch officer. It is burdened with a fallacy of navigation systems and the quality of marking ship’s route on a map. In the case of navigational-parameter measurements used for depicting ship position, one can obtain incorrect results due to a disturbance in the measurement process. In extreme cases, such erroneous data could significantly differ from the anticipated results. Deviating observations could significantly influence the values of measurement results. In order to eliminate the determination of erroneous measurements, one could use resistant estimation methods with suitably selected attenuation functions. The accuracy of a determined position will not be better than the capabilities of the device used. Adjustment gives the possibility of eliminating or minimizing human errors as well as the errors in the indications of navigational devices. This paper presents the latest robust estimation methods using Danish attenuation function for adjustment of navigational observation, using radar observation.
