1 Introduction The main aim of support organizations is to deliver support services for small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in order to boost their development. The nature of support organizations is diverse – some support organizations are connected with public bodies, so they are dependent on regional or local institutions. Others belong to the third sector (called “nonprofit organizations [NPOs]”) and are associated with bottom–up initiatives and charitable missions to serve SMEs.
