The samples used for stableisotope analyses were drilled using a Dremel with a drill bit diameter of 0.5 mm. All samples for isotopic profile were taken directly from axial part of stalagmite at approximately 2.0 ± 0.2 mm increments from the stalagmite base at 0 mm to the discontinuity at 1,630 mm, producing 798 samples. Additionally, four profiles were sampled along the growing layers at different distances from the stalagmite base, i.e ., profile I at 122 ± 0.2 mm

The climate changes and industrial pollutant emissions occur during physiological processes responsible for plant growth and also can influence stableisotope composition of wood and its components ( Craig, 1954 ; Farquhar and Lloyd, 1993 ; McCarroll and Loader, 2004 ; Sensuła, 2015 ). There has been much discussion about the biological effects of pollutant pressure on trees, which concerned yearly

examined in this regard ( Monahan et al ., 2013 ; Moloney et al ., 2014 ). Beef from cattle finished on pasture or concentrates could be distinguished based on their fatty acid composition ( Alfaia et al ., 2009 ) or stableisotope ratios ( Osorio et al ., 2011 ). However, no studies have been reported on discriminating between beef from cattle finished on different pastures, even though grass-only versus grass/clover pasturing will likely receive different sustainability and environmental ratings from consumers in the future (Broom et al ., 2013). Stable Isotopes (H, C, S) and the Origin of Baltic Amber
New results of isotope analysis of light elements (H, C and S) of a dozen Baltic amber samples are described and discussed. Carbon isotope composition was nearly constant (ca. -23‰), whereas sulphur and hydrogen varied in their isotope compositions from +4 to -28‰ and from -171 to -213‰, respectively. The formation and subsequent evolution of this material since its origin in Paleogene time until present is outlined.
