Simulation Model for Prediction of Transient Performance Characteristics of Single–Phase Shaded Pole Motor

Abstract

Paper proposes mathematical model of single phase shaded pole motor suitable for analysis of motor dynamic behavior. Derived mathematical model from dq reference frame theory is applied at motor simulation model. Derived simulation model enables analysis of transient performance characteristics of motor currents, speed and electromagnetic torque under different operating regimes. Obtained results from the simulation are compared with data from analytical calculations based on method of symmetrical components and data from experiment for the purpose of verification of the simulation model. Simulation model is useful for studying the effect of parameters on motor starting and running characteristics at different types of loads.

Verification of the Simulation Model Based on the Example of Combined Sewage System in Głogów

Abstract

The verification of simulation model of combined sewage system was presented in article. The model of sewage system functioning in Głogów was developed using SWMM 5.1 (Storm Water Management Model) software. It was calibrated based on the results of field studies from the years 2011–13, while the properness of its activity was verified for the results of measurements carried out in 2014. The verification of the model showed acceptable discrepancies between the measured and simulated values of flow rates. Factors which caused differences were indicated and, on the basis of this, conclusions pertaining to further studies were formulated.

Experimental Assessment of the Meliss Simulation Model Accuracy of the Direct Solar Irradiance in Brasov, Romania

Abstract

The solar irradiance is the main input parameter when designing solar energy conversion systems. A poor accuracy of the solar irradiance simulation models negatively affect the output energy and the durability of the solar energy conversion system. In the paper, the measured values of the direct solar irradiance in the entire month of July 2016 are analysed and, based on the daily received direct solar energy and the variability of the direct solar irradiance, the days are classified in four categories: clear sky days, partially clear sky days, partially cloudy days and cloudy days. Based on this classification, only four clear sky days were identified in July 2016. The same procedure was applied for the months of July 2013, 2014 and 2015 resulting 13 clear sky days in the entire monitoring period of four years (2013-2016). The measured values of the direct solar irradiance in these 13 selected clear sky days are comparatively analysed against the direct solar irradiance simulated with Meliss clear sky model. Further on, a statistical analysis is performed for the time interval 8:00-16:00 to evaluate absolute, relative and root mean square errors between the measured and simulated values. The results show that the simulation model overestimates, in eleven out of the thirteen clear sky days, the solar direct irradiance in the central part of the day. The measurements were performed in the Renewable Energy Systems and Recycling (RESREC) Research Centre located in the R&D Institute of the Transilvania University of Brasov, Romania.

Automated calibration of the simulation model of irrigation projects by harmony search optimization

The paper deals with calibration of the simulation models of hydraulic part of an irrigation project. Calibrated simulation model can be used in design, reconstruction, enlargement or maintenance of the pressurized irrigation systems. Computer model of the water distribution system is a valuable tool which can assist engineers and planners in analyzing the hydraulic performance of water delivery systems. Calibration of the water distribution model consists in comparison of pressures and flows predicted with observed pressures and flows for known operating conditions (i.e., pump operation, tank levels, pressure-reducing valve settings), and adjustment of the input data for the model to improve agreement between observed and predicted values. In practice, given a set or sets of measured state variables, engineers apply trial and error techniques with their judgment to vary the parameters and accomplish this task. Trial and error techniques are tedious do not guarantee reasonable results. The paper introduces the methodology of determination of calibrated parameters automatically. Described methodology of calibration is based on optimizing procedures using the harmony search approach.

Simulation Model of Transport Traceability System for Transit Customs Goods within the EEU

Abstract

This article reviews the transport traceability system for customs goods within the Eurasian Economic Union, which is the automated data system used to control integrity and movement of cargo section of a carrier vehicle by means of satellite navigation system, mobile cellular communication system and satellite communication system. Article is dedicated to the development of a model that simulates functions of transport traceability system for customs goods, which are being transported using the international transit transport corridors, and this model would be also used for assessment of a demand on electronic seals by seal installation stations, and for determination of correspondence between simulated transport route and actual travel time. Simulation model was already used in a test project, where it was integrated into “EVAC Transit” transport traceability system, and it has proven it’s operability and efficiency.

Evaluation of Failure Probability of Ships on the Baltic Sea by Means of Simulation Model and Statistical Data

The ship technical failures contribution in overall number of navigational accidents are significantly smaller than those caused by human factor but in safety analysis they cannot be neglected. The paper presents stochastic modeling the technical failures of ships with respect of most important ship systems such as main engine, power generators and steering gear. The data for simulation was obtained from analysis of ships statistical data of polish owners. Obtained results could be useful for estimation of transport loses or potential environmental threats and planning the response action against them.
