Introduction Salicylic acid ( Acidum salicylicum ) (henceforth SA) is a derivative of benzoic acid ( Fig. 1 ) occurring in nature. It is an important signal molecule in plants; it regulates growth and development and mediates plants’ response to viral and bacterial infections ( 1 , 10 ).
