Effect of Extraction Conditions on the Extractability of Phenolic Compounds from Lyophilised Fig Fruits (Ficus Carica L.)

Effect of Extraction Conditions on the Extractability of Phenolic Compounds from Lyophilised Fig Fruits (Ficus Carica L.)

In this work the influence of 50-80% (v/v) aqueous ethanol and the temperature of extraction (25-80°C) on the extractability of total phenolics, total flavonoids and total proanthocyanidins from different fig fruits was investigated. The best extraction conditions (80%, v/v aqueous ethanol, 80°C) obtained in the experiments with lyophilised Ficus carica L. cv. Šaraguja were used while performing the extraction of phenolic compounds from other fig varieties (Bružetka bijela, Crnica, Bjelica and Termenjača). The antioxidant capacity was measured in all fig fruits as well.

It has been shown that the temperature of extraction and ethanol to water ratio have a statistically significant influence on the extraction of phenolic compounds from fig fruits variety Šaraguja. The highest content of phenolic compounds was found in fig variety Crnica while the lowest one in fig variety Bjelica. According to the results obtained in this study, fig fruits can be considered as a natural source of phenolic compounds with good antioxidant capacity.

Coordinator Role Mobility Method for Increasing the Life Expectancy of Wireless Sensor Networks

Abstract

The general problem of wireless sensor network nodes is the low-power batteries that significantly limit the life expectancy of a network. Nowadays the technical solutions related to energy resource management are being rapidly developed and integrated into the daily lives of people. The energy resource management systems use sensor networks for receiving and processing information during the realia time. The present paper proposes using a coordinator role mobility method for controlling the routing processes for energy balancing in nodes, which provides dynamic network reconfiguration possibilities. The method is designed to operate fully in the background and can be integrated into any exiting working system.

History as an April Fool’s Joke. Defamiliarising Collective Memory in Rabih Mroué’s So Little Time

Summary

In the article, Rabih Mroué’s performance-lecture So Little Time (2017) is discussed as an example of counterfactual mobilization for the purposes of political critique in contemporary art and theatre. I scrutinize Mroué’s references to the modern history of Lebanon and—drawing upon a cultural analysis of this performance—discuss the artist’s rendering of the instrumentalization of Lebanese collective memory by competing factions in the country’s political scene. Drawing upon existing readings of Rabih Mroué’s oeuvre offered by Charles Esche and Shela Sheikh, I posit that the artist reveals the arbitrary quality of the representations of the past through defamiliarization (ostranenie), and that his method bears an affinity to Jacques Derrida’s notions of deconstruction and decolonization.
