Strategies to Enhance the Intravenous Treatment Satisfaction and Drug Safety Awareness Among Patients with Multiple Sclerosis in Macedonia

Abstract

Background: Multiple sclerosis (MS) treatment aims not only to prevent the rate of relapse, but also to slow down patient’s disability progression. Monoclonal antibodies constitute a new class of therapeutic agents and are administered by intravenous (IV) infusion. Treatment satisfaction and incidence of adverse drug events influence the patient’s treatment adherence which is essential to ensure patients obtain the best treatment outcomes and also to make that treatment cost-effective. Our primary objective was to assess the current IV treatment satisfaction among MS patients.

Methods: A standard questionnaire was developed which contained 20 questions about patient’s disease, IV treatment satisfaction and drug safety awareness. Analyzed data was presented as a percent of the respondents.

Results: The cross-sectional study included 13 MS patients on IV treatment, with mean age of 35 years. 54% of them had relapse-remitting MS, while 46% had secondary progressive MS. The most common onset symptoms were tingling reported in 46% and numbness in 31% patients. 70% of patients were satisfied, while 23% were not satisfied with the conditions under which they were receiving their IV treatment that lasts in average 2 hours. Well-established pharmacovigilance practice enhanced the patient’s knowledge that was reflected through 100% reporting of adverse drug reactions in the past.

Conclusion: High level of satisfaction from the current IV treatment conditions and high drug safety awareness among MS patients was shown. Establishment of infusion centre as a proposed strategy by MS patients would substantially increase their IV treatment satisfaction and adherence.

Rectification of invalidly published new names for plants from the late Eocene of North Bohemia

Abstract

Valid publication of new names of fossil plant taxa published since 1 January 1996 requires a diagnosis or description in English, besides other requirements included in the International Code of Nomenclature for algae, fungi, and plants (Melbourne Code) adopted by the Eighteenth International Botanical Congress, Melbourne, Australia, July 2011 (McNeill et al. 2012). In order to validate names published from the late Eocene flora of the Staré Sedlo Formation, North Bohemia, diagnosed only in German (Knobloch et al. 1996), English translations are provided, including references to the type material and further relevant information.

Commentary on European Court of Justice judgement of 19 January 2017 in case C-460/15 Schaefer Kalk GmbH & Co. KG v Bundesrepublik Deutschland

essential element of Directive 2003/87 when it adopted the second sentence of Article 49(1) of Regulation No 601/2012 and point 10(B) of Annex IV to that regulation, overstepped the limits laid down in Article 14(1) of that directive. Consequently, the answer to the questions referred was that ‘the second sentence of Article 49(1) of Regulation No 601/2012 and point 10(B) of Annex IV to that regulation are invalid in so far as they systematically include the CO 2 transferred to another installation for the production of PCC in the emissions of the lime combustion

illness. The intervention may be invalid to shorten LOS in ICU and hospital; in the same way, the result may be interrupted by Patman’s study. 23 We realized that patients following cardiac surgery suffer less time in ICU, so EM intervention was not enough to improve stay time within a relatively short time. Meanwhile, studies have reported the favorable influence on the first day out of bed, 20 independent functional status, and greatest walking distance before hospital discharge. 22 Altogether, considering the small number of included studies and clinical diversity

Dropout Rates and Response Times of an Occupation Search Tree in a Web Survey

Abstract

Occupation is key in socioeconomic research. As in other survey modes, most web surveys use an open-ended question for occupation, though the absence of interviewers elicits unidentifiable or aggregated responses. Unlike other modes, web surveys can use a search tree with an occupation database. They are hardly ever used, but this may change due to technical advancements. This article evaluates a three-step search tree with 1,700 occupational titles, used in the 2010 multilingual WageIndicator web survey for UK, Belgium and Netherlands (22,990 observations). Dropout rates are high; in Step 1 due to unemployed respondents judging the question not to be adequate, and in Step 3 due to search tree item length. Median response times are substantial due to search tree item length, dropout in the next step and invalid occupations ticked. Overall the validity of the occupation data is rather good, 1.7-7.5% of the respondents completing the search tree have ticked an invalid occupation.

ErasuCrypto: A Light-weight Secure Data Deletion Scheme for Solid State Drives

Abstract

Securely deleting invalid data from secondary storage is critical to protect users’ data privacy against unauthorized accesses. However, secure deletion is very costly for solid state drives (SSDs), which unlike hard disks do not support in-place update. When applied to SSDs, both erasure-based and cryptography-based secure deletion methods inevitably incur large amount of valid data migrations and/or block erasures, which not only introduce extra latency and energy consumption, but also harm SSD lifetime.

This paper proposes ErasuCrypto, a light-weight secure deletion framework with low block erasure and data migration overhead. ErasuCrypto integrates both erasurebased and encryption-based data deletion methods and flexibly selects the more cost-effective one to securely delete invalid data. We formulate a deletion cost minimization problem and give a greedy heuristic as the starting point. We further show that the problem can be reduced to a maximum-edge biclique finding problem, which can be effectively solved with existing heuristics. Experiments on real-world benchmarks show that ErasuCrypto can reduce the secure deletion cost of erasurebased scheme by 71% and the cost of cryptographybased scheme by 37%, while guaranteeing 100% security by deleting all the invalid data.

Late Pleistocene Birds from Binagada (Azerbaijan) in Collection of the National Museum of Natural History (Kyiv, Ukraine)

Abstract

Bird fossils from the Late Pleistocene locality Binagada, deposited kept in the National Museum of Natural History in Kyiv (Ukraine), are described in this paper. Twenty six bird species are identified, including five (Little Stint, Great snipe, Jack snipe, White-winged lark and Rosy Starling) which have not been previously known from this locality. The validity of extinct species Calidris binagadensis (Serebrovsky, 1940) is confirmed and the invalidity of subspecies Anas platyrhynchos paleoboschas Serebrovsky, 1940 is shown. The finding of Rosy Starling fossils in Transcaucasian region confirms the range reduction of this species at the end of Pleistocene.
