This article brings to the attention of specialists few points related to an improvement of existing situation in the field of critical infrastructure security through the implementation of advanced technologies and employing a scientific research methodology based on project management. For ensuring the functionality of critical infrastructures, the characteristics of current security environment such as volatility, ambiguity and uncertainty, which determine the use of solutions characterized mainly by the operational agility, have been taken into account. The results of this approach can be useful both for the educational field and for the staff who occupy positions inside the critical infrastructure protection departments within organizations holding or managing such critical infrastructures.

This paper reviews GPS investigations in Japan and the United States. In 2017, the Japanese Supreme Court held that warrantless GPS search was illegal. The case reviewed in this article illustrates the boundary of permissible investigation using advanced technology and highlights the fact that rapidly developing technology challenges legal research. In the 2017 decision discussed in this paper, law enforcement challenged the permissible scope of investigating warrantless GPS searches; a challenge common in other countries, like the U.S. The U.S. Supreme Court has already decided this case in United States v. Jones decision in 2012. Both of Japanese and American decision takes similar reasoning for their decisions.


Deciding on a treatment approach for early stage lung cancer (0-1) is sometimes difficult because of uncertainties regarding the depth of tumour invasion and its margins. Even with advanced technology, such as endobronchial ultrasound and autofluorescence bronchoscopy, it is often difficult to be precise. In this currently discussed case, treatment of a 61-year-old female patient with early stage IA lung cancer could not proceed for such reasons. Fortunately, timely surgical intervention allowed preservation of lung function and the patient is now under close surveillance.


Intelligent Transport System (ITS) is a worldwide movement meant to use advanced technology to make the ground transport systems more efficient, clogging-free, more secure and less polluting. The present technologies permit the development of applications for traffic monitoring in a semaphored crossroads. The solution proposed is a low-cost one, using FPGA DE0 development platform. The implementation and simulation of the application have been realized in Quartus II 13.1 and the diagrams corresponding to the outputs and inputs have been obtained using ModelSim- Altera 10.1d.

The central presence of information also highlights the concept and influencing factors of interoperability. The participants can be individuals, organizations or other groups, where a comprehensive flow of information and the constant presence of the information space is essential for its effective and efficient activity. Interoperability issues are also a key component of the military transformation process of NATO, so basic information questions should be answered to achieve the target system. Nowadays, interoperability requirements and definitions are subject to periodic changes in order to facilitate high-tech joint exercises using advanced technology.
