Influencing of Maximum Explosive Parameters of Ignition Energies of Dust-Air Mixtures

Abstract

This article deals with maximum explosive parameters of dust-air mixtures and their influencing of ignition energies. Pyrotechnic ignitors were mixed and assembled in this experimental measurements. These assembled pyrotechnic ignitors were recorded with high-speed camera. Obtained records were used for describing their behaviour after activation. Pyrotechnic ignitors were modified and then were used for ignition of selected dust-air mixtures in the final stage of this experimental measurements. This test was carried out using an explosion autoclave where the optimal concentration of selected dust-air mixtures was used.

Temperature Field Evolution in Wood Samples During the Flame Spread Experiments

Abstract

Vertical, horizontal and 45° upward flame spread experiments over the small scale beech and pine wood samples were performed. Wood samples were of two geometries - square cross section prisms (15 x 15 mm) and a thin rectangular cross section prisms (5 x 40 mm) - and of three different lengths - 10, 15 and 30 cm. Samples were ignited by a heptane source fire extinguished immediately when the wood samples ignited. During the flame spread an internal temperature profiles along the centreline of the samples were measured by a set of thermocouples. Flame spread was observed in all sample positions except the horizontal orientation of the beech and pine square prism samples. Experimental data will serve for a validation of the pyrolysis models in the Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) flame spread models.

Mining the sparking rocks in the context of most frequent cases of methane ignition

Abstract

The article presents the principles of safe cutting of rocks prone to generate igniting methane sparks. A list of methane ignitions and explosions from the sparking of rocks caused by cutting with road header was given. Unusual case of methane ignition in conditions of full technical and technological protection of roadway development is discussed. In conclusions, the importance of an individual approach to geological and mining conditions in the case of the need to cut sparking rocks was emphasized.

Dealing with Free Will in Contemporary Theology: is It Still a Question?

Abstract

Free will is a very hot issue in several theoretical settings, but less in theology, or at least not as much as use to be in former times, when the discussions on sinfulness, grace and freedom were igniting a long season of controversies, especially in the Reformation time. Even in ecumenical dialogue apparently free will does not play a great role, since the reached consensus seems quite peaceful and agreement dominates over discussion. However, some theological insights, especially Karl Rahner reflections, are still worthy to consider and possibly theological anthropology should pay more attention to the current debate and its consequences for the way we understand human nature and its relationship with God.

Towards a ‘transverse inter-sectoral debate’? A Case Study of the Rural Partnership Programme (RPP) in Post-Socialist Lithuania

By providing a forum for collaboration between diverse stakeholders, a main aim of the governance and rural development model is to ignite a representative and transverse inter-sectoral debate in relation to local development issues. This article identifies some of the determinants that arise in the transferability of the governance and rural development model from its conventional operational context of free-market liberal democracy to the post-socialist rural setting of the Ukmerge district in Lithuania, where a Rural Partnership Programme (RPP) was implemented (2003-2005). The analysis focuses specifically on how elements of the post-socialist context and other more case-specific aspects of the RPP's operation impacted on the inter-sectoral dynamics of the RPP partnership board's operation. The attitudes of the sectoral representatives towards the RPP as a model for representative and integrated rural development are explored.

On Risks and Side Effects: Does Creative Accomplishment Make us Narcissistic?

Abstract

Kaufman (2018) calls for a research agenda on outcomes of creativity. Despite its many conceivable positive consequences, we focus on narcissism as a potentially less socially desirable outcome of creative accomplishment in this commentary. Evidence from cross-sectional studies suggests a systematic link between different indicators of creativity and narcissism. We argue that - irrespective of methodological challenges associated with this research - it seems indeed plausible that creativity is associated with narcissism. The link is presumably strongest in individuals who engage in creativity for recognition motives. Narcissistic strivings might ignite creative endeavors, and positive social feedback for creative accomplishments might fuel narcissism. While more research needs to be done to understand the causal nature of the effects, the available evidence points to narcissism as a socially undesirable aspect of creativity which is not commonly discussed.
