Verification of Ram-Press Pipe Bending Process using Elasto-Plastic FEM Model

Abstract

In this paper selected aspects of numerical modelling of bending pipes process are described. Elasto-plastic material model was used in COMSOL FEM environment. The results of numerical analyses of two kinds of steel were presented. The correctness of the proposed model was verified based on comparison shapes of deformed pipe profile obtained at the ending step of bending both from numerical simulations and experiment.

FEM Approach to Estimate the Behaviour of Biocomposite Metal-Surface Coating Systems

A three dimensional (3D) model of biocomposite metal-surface coating system, which is influenced by known external forces, is proposed. This model consists of the metallic substrate (Ti6A14V) and the hydroxyapatite (HA) coating. Using FEM (finite element method), strain-stress maps of model were generated for investigating relations between the extreme stress of HA coating and the magnitude of external force and the thickness of the coating. The analysis of numerical simulations results confirms that the system with the greatest coating thickness (i.e. 10-3 m) has the least extreme stress in this surface coating.

Fem Simulation of Thermal Cycles During Laser Welding of Aluminium

Abstract

The submitted paper deals with the simulation of thermal cycles during laser welding of aluminum sheets using Finite Element Method (FEM). After the design and creation of the simulation model, the simulation results were verified by the thermal cycles measured during the experiment on real samples. Verification has shown that, despite the differences that have resulted from some simplifications, the proposed model corresponds to the actual behavior of the material used during the laser welding process.

FEM Analysis and Experimental Tests of Rigid Riser Hanging System

Abstract

The article presents the analysis, project, and experimental examination of an original rigid riser for Coil Tubing Pipes. The principle of riser operation is based on the use of friction forces. The research included the FEM analysis of the designed riser, calculations of the required bolt tensions, and checking the effect of the clamping force on stress distribution in the pipeline. The results of computer simulation were verified on a specially designed test rig. The described riser design was implemented on the LOTOS Petrobaltic platform, thus eliminating the need for purchase and installation of expensive elastic risers.

Fem Analysis of Proppant Sticking in Rock Cracks

Abstract

The problem of effective gas extraction from Polish shale rocks is an interesting research subject for scientists. A properly selected proppant, which protects cracks from closing during the fracturing process, inestimably contributes to an increase of extraction. Grains of proppant are transported along with a fracturing medium to reach the deepest regions of the crack. The proper support of the crack provides an easy flow of gas, therefore it is important in terms of extraction efficiency. This paper shows the interactions of a proppant grain with the crack surface in shale rock. FEM analysis was conducted to observe the stress region, which is generated as a result of pressing the grain into the crack surface. A model of a sphere which was pressed into the rock model with constant velocity was applied. The received results of stress depend on material properties and a range of proppant grain pressing.

FEM Calculations in Analysis of Steel Subsea Water Injection Flowlines Designing Process

Abstract

The article describes the result of theoretical research aimed at assessing the loads and operating conditions of a Coiled Tubing pipeline injecting water, suspended to the mining platform of Lotos Petrobaltic. For this purpose, appropriate calculation models have been developed using the Finite Element Method (FEM), taking into account the nature of the analyzed object and its loads. The analyzes were carried out for two pipes (previously operated and newly proposed) differing in geometrical and strength parameters. The research was carried out for selected directions of load on the pipeline (originating from sea waves) and various variants of attaching the suspended pipeline to the mining platform.
