An Assessment of the Application of Earnings Management Objectives and Instruments in Financial Reporting – Evidence of Survey Research Results

Abstract

The study contains an overview of earnings management tools of reporting entities and capital groups in Poland. Relations between the phenomenon of earnings management and financial reporting policy have been analysed. A research problem related to the significance and application of particular earnings management tools as perceived by practitioners (accountants, executive board members, specialists) has been discussed. Selected tools of earnings management, usually linked with operations, are perceived to be used more intensively. The conducted analysis shows that in the opinion of the surveyed respondents the most effective instrument influencing the desired level of results presented in a financial statement is carrying out transactions under conditions which ensure the achievement of a reported goal. This applies also to capital groups, in which transactions effected between group units were indicated as the ones used to the greatest extent.

Sustainability as a Tool for Increasing Competitiveness

Sustainability as a Tool for Increasing Competitiveness

One of the main aims of companies is to reach quality of products and services. In particular, good quality of services is a highly rated factor so the price often stands behind. Nevertheless, many companies focus on the quality as the customer is willing to pay for it. The company is more competitive; however, they must strive to achieve continual improvements. Accepting the principles of sustainable development is one of the instruments or strategies to reach competitive growth. Currently this notion is being profaned and often considered only as a simple phrase, but many companies from different spheres, such as tourism, electrical engineering, retail, civil engineering, etc., show its real benefits. Companies create strategies of sustainable development following company competitiveness.

Discriminant Analysis - Useful Tool for Predicting Demand in Serbian Motels

Abstract

In this paper, a discriminant analysis, as useful tool to predict potential demand in Serbian motels, is presented. Through the presented literature review, it was determined that there is not a large number of surveys dealing with the needs and demand of transit tourists. Despite that, transit tourism is one of the priority forms of tourism for the Republic of Serbia in accordance with the established Tourism Development Strategy for the Republic of Serbia for the current period. Questionnaire survey as the main method for data collection is used. According to the results, 14 dimensions of potential guests’ expectations are extracted. The results of discriminant function analysis (DFA) present the impact of potential motel guests’ expectations on the main reason for travelling, while the results of canonical varieties analysis (CVA) present the impact of potential motel guests’ expectations on preferred services in Serbian motels.

Building Information Modeling for Housing Renovation - Example for Ukraine

Abstract

Building Information Modelling (BIM) is the latest software technology used widely by many construction businesses - big and small - particularly within the Architecture Engineering Construction (AEC) sector. Besides being a design and documentation tool, building information models (BIM) provide a platform for enhanced knowledge base collaboration, the potential to manage modification, and therefore the capability to provide information support throughout the lifecycle of an apartment building. A big share of the eastern European construction industries remains excluded from BIM technology and the potential advantages it will hand over to their business, particularly for renovation projects. It requies the involvement of all stakeholders to realize higher-level coordination, productivity, visualization and value efficiencies. The advantages of BIM exploitation for renovation projects are considered in the article. Tendencies in the development of BIM technologies throughout the globe and in eastern European countries on example of Ukraine are shown. Examples of the exploitation of local building information systems in realizing renovation processes are given, and proposals for policymakers in terms of applying BIM technologies in housing renovation activities and facility management are formulated.

Assessing the Possibility of Implementing Tools of Technical Analysys for Real Estate Market Analysis

Abstract

Technical analysis (TA) and its different aspects are widely used to study the capital market. In the traditional approach, this analysis is used to determine the probability of changes in current rates on the basis of their past changes, accounting for factors which had, have or may have an influence on shaping the supply and demand of a given asset. In the practical sense, TA is a set of techniques used for assessing the value of an asset based on the analysis of the asset's trajectories as well as statistical tools.

The work assumes three research objectives: 1) a review of tools applied in technical analysis, 2) an attempt at implementing selected tools of technical analysis for analyzing the real estate market (REM), 3) an assessment of the possibilities of implementing selected tools for assessing the real estate market on the example of the Olsztyn residential real estate market. The research hypothesis is a presumption regarding the possibility of implementing tools used in traditional technical analysis for the analysis of the real estate market accounting for the natural limitations and specifics of the market.

The work extends scientific achievements in the part regarding the methods and tools of analyzing the real estate market as well as the connections between the real estate market and the capital market.
