Marek Stachowski: composer, teacher, and vice-chancellor, one of cultural Kraków’s most outstanding figures, died prematurely in 2004. The tenth anniversary of his death is an occasion to review the works he left behind as well as his extensive reflections on his own output and on the state of art in general. Reading into the numerous opinions regarding his own activity as a composer, we have found significant statements that confirm three distinctive qualities of Marek Stachowski’s artistic personality. First and foremost, his deep conviction of being predestined for the profession and an awareness of his aesthetic roots; secondly, the ability to analyse his own creative achievements; and finally, the rationalisation of the creative act while maintaining a distance towards his own work.
Marek Stachowski’s oeuvre comprises 56 catalogued compositions, both small- and large-scale, vocal and instrumental, reflecting the various paths of Polish music in the second half of the 20th century: from sonoristic avant-garde to the “New Classicism.” Throughout these transformations, however, we can perceive some stable individual qualities of his musical language, namely: clarity of structure, sophistication of sound and the leading role of expression.
The article shows selected problems of contemporary narrative studies. They are a special type of qualitative analyses characteristic of many humanistic disciplines: e.g. sociology, psychology, or pedagogy. They may also apply to musical issues, interalia biographical studies in the broad sense. In Polish literature on the subject there are many publications concerning different aspects of the life, creative work, and artistic and pedagogical activities of persons connected with art, culture, and music education. The article stresses that the specificity of the facts and phenomena learned in that way is the subjective character of their transmission. The experiences and reflection contained in the collected utterances and descriptions show an inner dialogue - the world of unspecified, immeasurable and variable phenomena dependent not only on external conditions but also on inner, personal standards. This makes it possible to analyze musical biographies in a new way. In light of the theoretical and methodological discussion presented in the article, biography and narrative appear to be a special type of methodological approach that uses different kinds of relationships and covers many areas associated with the study of musicians, their activities, development, and career. The narrative approach is a valuable source of unique information on the biographies of musicians. It is also a worthwhile way of learning about socio-cultural changes concerning awareness of and thinking about the profession of musician and music education.
One of the challenges which an arts‟ professor faces in the XXIth century is “the need to refresh”. Therefore, it is essential to find out efficient teaching-learning methods which imply the creative involvement of the students, in order to get an organic learning as a result, but also in order to provoke a superior degree of responsibility towards the process itself and, last but not least, towards their future profession. That‟s why we chose to work with a group of students based on the theatre-laboratory system, they getting involved in every step, from the choice of the text to the improvisation, until the making of the final show.
In 1776, the convent of Elizabethan Nuns in Prague’s New Town was commemorating the fiftieth anniversary of two events: the profession of the former Mother Superior M. Deodata a Presentatione B. V. Mariae OSE (née Anna Justina von Klausniz) and the laying of the foundation stone of the convent building. The celebrations of this dual anniversary were also reflected in the institution’s musical life. There was a performance at the convent of a congratulatory cantata with a libretto by the ex-Jesuit Rochus Elinger, and music was composed for it by the local choirmaster M. Juliana a Septem BB. Patribus OSE. On Holy Saturday, there was a performance of the sepolcro Der verlorne Sohn (The Prodigal Son), composed by Emilián Rickert OCist. from the monastery in Zbraslav. That same year, Jáchym Štěpanovský, the cantor from České Budějovice, also dedicated his works to the Mother Superior.
The importance and utility of physical exercise in the life style of the artists has inspired us to write this paper through which we address the people from this field who want to start their own business. We launch this idea in order to provide employees a space for sports activities inside the company. A program of varied physical activity introduced as a break in the work program is an important element in the improvement of the human and professional resources. In this paper we describe: types of spaces equipped for physical exercises, work programs and several reasons that sustain the idea that a recreation back is very useful in the utility artistic professions of the modern world.
Although the Feldenkrais method is quite well-known and used in relation to dance, music, and acting, it is rather uncommon to associate it with animation theatre. The puppeteer’s art is a profession that requires motor skills and sustained physical effort, which demands that the animating actor has an extended consciousness of oneself and of the space. Therefore, the Feldenkrais method can be a useful instrument in the puppeteer’s education and training, as the placing of the body in a relaxed stance, one which helps in the management of pain and effort, facilitates the conscious and creative learning of animation techniques, with an emphasis on the coordination and fluidity of movement. These are learning principles of the art of animation that are successfully used by Nicolas Gousseff, an artist that was formed at ESNAM (École Supérieure Nationale des Arts de la Marionnette de la Charleville-Mézières), and who has specialized in handheld puppets and using the actor’s body as a performative space for this type of animation.
The paper examined the dialectics and the Philosophical Theorization of the Phenomenon of Industrial design viz-a-viz meta-design, both as new areas of the philosophical discourse and intellectualization of both fields. This is not only as new subject disciplines / profession but also as New/Novel, and “uncharted waters” in the study and philosophy of both. Which is aimed at their adoption as a veritable tool and vehicle, for achieving New and innovative franchises and enterprises that might thus help bring about creating potentially New Design paradigms. In the body of the text it was established that by employing interdisciplinarity and collaborative efforts / approaches, designers try to achieve these New design efforts which are inspired by the way living organisms, systems and mechanisms, function and work. This eventually will influence, change or completely overhaul the way we feed, cloth ourselves, shelter, communicate or even co-habit in the future. The paper also established that the implications of the above will help engender a new narrative in the discussions and reasoning (or the dialectics) of these two disciplines and also of how they will affect the subjects practice and the various attempts aimed at its Pedagogy /Education. It was also established that the nature of such an Education and the Impartation of the adequate Design skills to graduates must adopt New strategies and implementation of an Industrial/Technological-based subject-Bias that leans towards Design intuitiveness, ingenious Technical/Technologically result oriented reasoning and practices. Bearing in mind the infusion also of various multidisciphinary subject areas that will help broaden the learner’s horizon. The paper recommends that the issue of the Dialectics and phenomenology of Industrial Design/Meta design (which is the philosophical study of the structure and makeup (or consciousness) of the concepts, context and content of industrial design) must be embedded in the implementation of the three conceptual Approaches of Design which are:-Design Awareness, Design Activity and Design Manufacture/fabrication. This is the sum total of all Design and Creative endeavours.
