Promotion of the Military Profession, Recruitment and Selection of Candidates. Conceptual Delimitations

Abstract

Romania’s security interests and objectives, the army missions in the current geopolitical context and Romania’s obligations as a member of NATO have imposed the continuation of the process of quantitative and qualitative restructuring of the human resources and determined the decision to renounce compulsory military service in favor of the one based on volunteering, starting with the first of January of 2007. The transition from the army based on compulsory military service to the one based on voluntary service imposed the repositioning of the military profession on the Romanian labor market, especially in relation to the competition represented by other similar institutions.

The Proposal of Key Performance Indicators in Facility Management and Determination the Weights of Significance

Abstract

The practice of facilities management is rapidly evolving with the increasing interest in the discourse of sustainable development. The industry and its market are forecasted to develop to include non-core functions, activities traditionally not associated with this profession, but which are increasingly being addressed by facilities managers. The scale of growth in the built environment and the consequential growth of the facility management sector is anticipated to be enormous. Key Performance Indicators (KPI) are measure that provides essential information about performance of facility services delivery. In selecting KPI, it is critical to limit them to those factors that are essential to the organization reaching its goals. It is also important to keep the number of KPI small just to keep everyone's attention focused on achieving the same KPIs. This paper deals with the determination of weights of KPI of FM in terms of the design and use of sustainable buildings.

Analysis of internationalization trends in the construction industry with an overview on Croatian construction companies

Abstract

Today’s level of globalization and intensifying of competition have resulted in increased number of companies that aim to internationalize their business, and internationalization is gaining more and more significance among the research community. There are not only many perceived benefits of conducting business activities outside one’s home country but also additional risks, challenges and barriers. Construction industry is specific in its nature as it is an extremely regulated profession. This presents an additional challenge to the construction companies seeking to internationalize their business. The goal of the paper is to analyze the current levels of internationalization on the global construction market and to gain insight into future trends, which are achieved by analyzing business data regarding the international construction sector and the data on international results of the Croatian construction companies. The paper first presents the development of the international construction market, followed by the report on the current state of the internationalization in the construction industry as well as on future trends. Finally, the paper presents an overview on the Croatian construction companies and their performance on the foreign markets and gives guidelines or potential growth strategies to participate on the foreign markets.

Analysis of Rework Risk Triggers in the Nigerian Construction Industry

Abstract

The construction industry plays a significant role in the infrastructure development of many countries. Construction projects suffer from a lot of setbacks despite sophistication and advancement in technology and pro­fessionalism. This study, therefore, assessed the factors that triggered the emergence of rework and the benefits derived from eliminating such triggers in the Nigerian construction industry. The study adopted a quantitative survey approach in which a structured questionnaire was adopted as the research instrument. Factor analysis using principal component analysis was adopted to determine the factors that triggered the rework and the pattern of relationship that existed amongst the factors; relative importance index (RII) was used to assess the benefits of eliminating rework triggers. The study concluded that the factors that triggered the emergence of rework were omis­sion and planning issues, change issues, funding and communication issues, and poor workers and resource control. Repeat patronage, higher productivity, and reduced delivery time reduced the rework and waste and improved the employee job satisfaction and morale; they were the benefits derived from eliminating rework trig­gers. It was recommended that there is a need for clarity, effectiveness, and timeliness of instruction and informa­tion dissemination amongst project participants and the participation of contractors, subcontractors, and other stakeholders at the design stages to avoid omissions and construction changes

Abstract

The article presents the description of the current education and vocational training systems in Poland and the world with special emphasis on technical professions. It draws attention to the events and decisions, which led to a decreased level of education, lower quality of graduates and problems, the youth graduating from secondary and high schools have with finding a job. The studies of the authors on the effectiveness of vocational training systems lead to the presentation of an innovative proposal of deriving operational goals of education from professional tasks and developing a modular design of curricula. Such an approach towards the construction of vocational training programs is based on the model of a modularized occupation MES (Modules of Employable Skills). The described concept is supported by: high efficiency, flexibility and economic issues.

Jiu Valley’s Mining Activity as an Identity Construction

Abstract

This article focuses upon an approach that is specific to the identity construction of the mining activity in the Jiu Valley while considering demographic movements as a result of the process of making the mining units efficient. The contribution and social responsibility of the decisional factors with a view to outlining a model of social development and to providing a functional balance of the identity modelling of the area becomes a goal of tremendous importance in sociological analysis.
