Optimal Dispatch of Ancillary Services Via Self-Organizing Migration Algorithm

Optimal Dispatch of Ancillary Services Via Self-Organizing Migration Algorithm

Modern electric power systems are large-scale systems with a complex structure comprised of interconnected networks. The balance between the generation and consumption of electricity has to be maintained at any moment. Transmission System Operator (TSO) uses ancillary services for keeping the domestic power balance. Selection of the services can be viewed as an optimization problem. In this contribution the optimization problem is solved via the Self-Organizing Migration Algorithm which belongs to the class of evolutionary algorithms. The comparison with historical activations of ancillary services showed the improved performance in terms of reduced cost for ancillary services.

Cross-Cultural Competence in the Time of Cross-Border Migration

Abstract

The waves of migrants that are trying to escape from the violence of their home state become a real threat for the security environment of the European countries. Our national security forces, like police and army personnel, should take into consideration future missions that consist in face to face interrelation actions with people from other cultures. Achieving knowledge and developing cross-cultural interrelation skills, with the help of which we can overcome some barriers in communication, can make the difference as long as the force power, in its entirety, no longer represents the sole and sufficient condition to solve actual multicultural crises situations.

Disproportionate Migration Pressure as a Challenge for the National Security of the Republic of Bulgaria

Abstract

Since 2011 a sustainable growth of illegal immigrants in the EU has been observed. As a result, Bulgaria has become one of the most affected member states of the EU. This article aims to research the main factors, resulted from the illegal immigration, which are changing the national security environment in Bulgaria. This paper is focused on the improvement of legal and political mechanisms for cooperation between the EU member states, coming from the Common asylum and immigration policy and building of the Area of Freedom, Security and Justice in the EU.
