A Concept of Suborbital Scientific Mission and Technology Validation

Abstract

Suborbital platforms are one of alternatives for satellites. They offer cheaper access to space to perform broad range of scientific and technology R&D. One of suborbital platforms are sounding rockets, which are suitable for these applications. A concept of scientific mission utilizing the sounding rocket is presented by author in this paper. The novelty of this mission is the operational responsive launch approach, which presents the example of the mission which responds for payload user needs, not payload contest approach, which is often in scientific community competing for payload space in space agency sounding rocket launch campaigns. The main mission goal is to perform astronomical observation of NEO using IR/VIS telescope. The secondary goal is to qualify the instrument for use on astronomical satellite observatory and raise its technology readiness level from TRL 6 to TRL 8. The expected mission output is to gain scientific data on NEO object and perform new IR/VIS optoelectronic instrument technology validation.

Technical Note: Outlays on Construction of Airport Runways with Prestressed and Dowelled Pavements

Abstract

For two variants of runways with abrasive concrete pavements in the prestressed and dowelled technologies, analyses have been presented regarding labour, materials, use of machinery, and financial outlays, together with the necessary technological-organisational analyses and assessment of work execution cycles, by the example of construction of a runway at the Katowice Airport.

Effective Friction Angle Of Deltaic Soils In The Vistula Marshlands

1 Introduction 1.1 Aim of research This research is focused on effective angle of internal friction and compares the results for the Vistula Marshlands muds and peats with similar soft soils. Effective shear strength parameters of the deltaic soils near Gdańsk are measured in drained and undrained triaxial compression tests and estimated with the Norwegian Institute of Technology (NTH) method using the Cone Penetration Tests (CPTU) sounding. The observed dilative-contractive soil behaviour is discussed taking into account the CPTU classification chart
