The Measurement of Costs and Results in Supply Chain Management: The Case of Poland

Abstract

Supply chain management (SCM) is a modern phenomenon in business practice and an important area of scientific discussions. In the literature it is not easy to find only one explanation of this subject because some scientists treat SCM as a separate concept, others as an expansion of the logistics function. The supply chain is a kind of modern business model that needs accurate management. To support the management process an the effective way, management accounting tools and methods may be applied. The aim of the article is to present the methods and tools of management accounting used for the measurement of costs and results in SCM. For this purpose, a survey was conducted among 40 selected enterprises in Poland. The findings indicate that on the one hand the studied organizations already use advanced management accounting tools and the methods providing information for SCM needs, on the other hand, they rarely apply them. This approach does not contribute to effective and holistic measurement of supply chain and its management.

Measurement of Forces During the Extraction Process

Abstract

The article briefly describes the factors affecting the workability of coal seams. Next, the construction and principle of operation of a globally unique device for determining the values of forces involved in the cutting process (coal extraction) named POU-BW/01-WAP by the author were presented. It is the only device in the world that determines two of the three component forces that are involved in the cutting process. To this end, two independent measuring blocks were used, which consist of tensometric force sensors: cutting (Fs) and pick downforce (Fd). To register these forces, a real pick was used, which is used in longwall drum shearers - a conical pick. The device has ATEX certification that allows working in real conditions, as a device intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres - in accordance with Directive 94/9/EC. The instrument has received many awards at global inventiveness and innovative solution trade shows.

The Comparing of the Selected Temperature Sensors Compatible with the Arduino Platform

Abstract

One of the most frequently measured quantity is temperature, which is also one of the most important physical quantities. Temperature has influence on the almost all states and processes in the nature as well as in technique. A wide range of temperature sensors is currently available on the market. They use different measurement principles and exist in many designs. According to the location of the sensing element in the measured environment, they are divided into two main groups: contact and non-contact. Further, we can divide the temperature sensors according to the physical principle on which they work. The article deals with the analysis and comparison of selected Arduino-compatible contact temperature sensors. The temperature measurement of machine functional nodes and its diagnostics are part of maintenance and engineering diagnostics. At present, NC and CNC machine diagnostics are an important trend in machine condition monitoring and machine status prediction to maintain production quality. Machine status monitoring allows reducing of machine service costs as well as maintaining the high production quality.
