Interdisciplinary Approach in Bone Metastases of Ovarian Cancer

Abstract

Ovarian carcinoma is a deadly disease, with one of the highest case-to-fatality ratio amongst all gynecological malignancies. The high mortality of these tumors can be explained by the fact that most patients present at an advanced stage, with widely spread metastatic disease, especially within the peritoneal cavity. Extraperitoneal, occult metastases are usually rare in cancer surviving patients. Bone metastases are not a common finding, but their incidence seems to be higher than expected, as proven by autopsy studies. Because most clinicians are not very familiar with bone metastases of ovarian carcinoma, in this article we intended to discuss the most controversial aspects concerning the diagnosis of this type of disease.

On outcome of five consecutive pregnancies with heart defects detected in 1st trimester of pregnancy

Abstract

The aim of this study was an analysis of cardiac assessment in the first trimester, their outcomes, and comparison with literature data. Five cases were analysed from the year 2014. The exams were performed between 11-13 + 6 weeks. The analysis confirmed that the detection of CHD in 1 st trimester was possible and was verified by an early fetal echocardiogram. The most common symptoms of abnormal heart images in the early screening assessment were: axis, heart size and color Doppler assessment of the chambers and V sign. The outcome of pregnancies with early detection of fetal heart defects was poor. There was only one surviver

Schmallenberg Virus – A New Risk in Cattle Breeding in Europe

Abstract

Since august 2011 europe has been facing a new virus which attacks the domestic and wild ruminants. The virus was named after the town where the first isolation had been made. The virus in question is transmitted by the biting midges (Culicoides spp.) and it can survive the winter in the bodies of those insects. it is also known that the virus does not endanger human health and it cannot be transferred directly from one animal to another because it is only carried by the vectors.

Development of data analysis tool for combat system integration

ABSTRACT

System integration is an important element for the construction of naval combat ships. In particular, because impeccable combat system integration together with the sensors and weapons can ensure the combat capability and survivability of the ship, the integrated performance of the combat system should be verified and validated whether or not it fulfills the requirements of the end user. In order to conduct systematic verification and validation, a data analysis tool is requisite. This paper suggests the Data Extraction, Recording and Analysis Tool (DERAT) for the data analysis of the integrated performance of the combat system, including the functional definition, architecture and effectiveness of the DERAT by presenting the test results.

Diversity and Distribution of Naked Amoebae in Water Bodies of Sumy Region (Ukraine)

Abstract

Taxonomy of naked amoebae and specifics of their distribution in water bodies of Sumy Region are presented. Our research identified 12 species of naked amoebae of 11 morphotypes. We established their ecological groups relative to abiotic aquatic factors: euryoxidic, stenooxidic, stenobiotic and those that survive in a wide range of organic matter content. According to the species composition, swamp and riparian species complexes of naked amoebae were identified. It was found that species complexes of amoeba are influenced by such factors as temperature, concentration of dissolved oxygen and organic compounds.

Renovation of Wooden Buildings in Riga

Abstract

The wooden architecture of the 19th century is mentioned in the UNESCO World Heritage description of Riga among the criteria that makes the Capital city of Outstanding Universal Value. So far, 3 500 wooden buildings in the city have survived. This paper summarizes information on the renovation of four wooden buildings. The aim of this paper is to give a closer overview on the impact of ownership, funding source and location in the city of the building on the process of renovation and architectural change. The internationally approved renovation principles in the renovation of wooden buildings in Riga are not often taken into account.

Singapore’s Policy in the Asia-Pacific: ASEAN and Open Regionalism

Abstract

Singapore’s policies and approach towards the Asia-Pacific region are guided by conservative pragmatism dictated by two imperatives—the geographical constraints of a small city state without a hinterland or natural resources, and the constant need to stay economically competitive and politically relevant in order to survive and thrive. This chapter begins with an overview of the historical development of Singapore and then zooms in to focus on its foreign policy thinking and development approach and examines how these then translate into actual policy and posturing in its immediate neighbourhood and the broader Asia-Pacific region.

Cannabis and alcohol in road traffic: an overview

Abstract

Traffic medicine is an important part within the scope of concerns of forensic medicine. We are dealing with consequences of traffic accidents – fatal or survived – but this problem overlaps the borders of our specialization. Sustained injuries are the focus of various fields of medicine and in combination with alcohol and illicit drugs abuse this issue is growing. The following review has an ambition to bring more light into the problem concerning the effect of alcohol and cannabis (which is the most common illicit drug used worldwide) on driving abilities.

Areas of industrial damages in upper Silesian industrial region versus recultivation or revitalization ?

Abstract

Areas of industrial damages require elaborating efficient methods of reclamation and revitalization. A region of Poland, where process of degradation is particularly visible is Upper Silesian Industrial Region. Areas in the zone of many-years influence of Huta “Miasteczko Śląskie” are characterized by norm-exceeding concentration of heavy metals. The area in its direct surrounding was defined as industriogeneous desert. In 2017 on three designated testing grounds with diversified degree of contamination (see: map) of joint area of 1.5 ha, planted were jointly 6550 seedlings of chosen species of trees and bushes which were likely to survive in those conditions. In the first vegetative season, despite extremely long-lasting drought and high temperatures, the seedlings showed high survivability. It amounted 82% on industriogeneous desert (testing ground C) and 90-95% on forest testing grounds (A and B). Maples stood out among other trees with proper development and condition. The highest seedlings, especially mountain ash, birch and European red elder already in August had burnt top shoots and numerous necroses on leaves. Introduction of plants – hyperaccumulators of heavy metals, especially on industriogeneous desert will influence positively on condition and development of seedlings in future vegetative seasons.

Infrared Signature Suppression Systems in Modern Military Helicopters

Abstract

Helicopters play an important role in air-to-ground fire covering and the short-distance air-to-air fights, as well as the anti-tank missions and battlefield force transferring. The detection and survivability of helicopters on a battlefield significantly depends on their infrared emissions level, as well as the methods, equipment and systems used by potential enemy. The automatic detection systems, recognition and identification of flying objects use among other the thermo-detection methods, which rely on detecting the infrared radiation emitted by the tracked object. Furthermore, due to low-altitude and relatively low flight speed, today’s combat assets like missile weapons equipped with infrared guidance systems are one of the most important threats to the helicopters performing combat missions. Especially meaningful in a helicopter aviation is infrared emission by exhaust gases, egressed to the surroundings. Due to high temperature, exhaust gases are a major factor in detectability of a helicopter performing air combat operations. In order to increase the combat effectiveness and survivability of military helicopters, several different types of the infrared suppressor (IRS) have been developed. This paper reviews contemporary developments in this discipline, with particular examples of the infrared signature suppression systems.
