Abstract

Larval cranial setae of each larval instar of 66 species belonging to 35 genera of Palaeartic Notodontid moths from Ukraine and Far East of Russia (Primorskii krai) was examined with the use of a scanning electron microscope. A comparison with outgroup species - Lasiocampoidea (Lasiocampidae), Sphingoidea (Sphingidae) and Noctuoidea (Erebidae: Lymantriinae, Arctiinae; Noctuidae) is conducted. Main kinds of setae during larval development and their transformation are discussed. Possible apomorphic and plesiomorphic states of the different characters are discussed in relation to the different taxa.

New Virgulid Cercaria (Trematoda, Lecithodendroidea) from Freshwater Mollusk Melanopsis praemorsa (Melanopsidae) from Azerbaijan Water Bodies. Morphology and Chaetotaxy of Cercaria Agstaphensis 31

An illustrated morphological description with chaetotaxy and differential diagnosis of a new virgulid cercaria - Cercaria agstaphensis 31 from the freshwater prosobranchial mollusk Melanopsis praemorsa (Linnaeus, 1758) are given. Special attention is paid to the arming of the tegument, structure of the glandular apparatus, excretory system, digestive system, structure of the sensory apparatus and other larval morphological characters.

Special attention is paid to the tegument armament, the structure of glandular apparatus, excretory system, digestive system, the structure of the sensory apparatus and other larval morphological characters.

Morphological Characteristics of Male Genitalia in Some Species in the Genus Torymus

Morphology of male genitalia in some species in the genus Torymus Dalman is studied for the first time. In contrast to genitalia of Eurytomidae species, where this structure is highly species-specific, the structure of genitalia in Torymidae species show no distinct specific differences: phallobase in studied species is opened; most species have three hooks on digital sclerites with the small indents at their bases.

Oswaldocruzia duboisi (Nematoda, Molineidae): Morphology, Hosts and Distribution in Ukraine

Oswaldocruzia duboisi Ben Slimane, Durette-Desset et Chabaud, 1993 previously known from France and Bulgaria is reported from Ukraine for the first time. The species was found in the material from 8 amphibian host species, of which Lissotriton montadoni, Triturus cristatus, Mesotriton alpestris, Pelophylax ridibunda, P. lessonae, and Hyla arborea are new host records. Newts (Salamandridae) and green frogs (Pelophylax) are considered to be typical hosts for O. duboisi. Illustrated morphological redescription of O. duboisi based on 141 specimens from various hosts is presented.

The Morphology and Biology of the Trematode Gigantobilharzia Acotylea (Digenea, Schistosomatidae)

Morpho-biological traits of the trematode Gigantobilharzia acotylea Odhner, 1910 at all stages of ontogeny are studied. Mollusks Physa fontinalis and Anisus spirorbis widespread in the waterbodies of the Syrdarya River valley were found to be intermediate hosts of this trematode under natural and experimental conditions in Uzbekistan. Prevalence of infection of P. fontinalis and A. spirorbis by Gigantobilharzia spp. parthenitae and cercariae reached 0.4 and 0.3%, respectively. Experimentally, 100% of these mollusks were infected. The maturation of cercariae in intermediate hosts ranged from 23 to 44 days depending on temperature. The cercariae actively penetrated the skin of birds and reached maturity in 30-35 days. A complex of traits of various developmental stages, particularly cercariae necessary for the differentiation of the Gigantobilharzia spp. is suggested based on of the analysis of morpho-biological peculiarities of these trematodes.

Hymenolepidoid Cestodes (Cyclophyllidae, Hymenolepidoidae) of Pratincole (Glareola Pratincola) from the South of Ukraine

Four hymenolepidoid cestode species Glareolepis porale (Meggitt, 1927) Spassky, 1967; Wardium (s. l.) tauricum Kornyushin et Greben, sp. n.; Wardium (s. l.) sp. n.; and Echinocotyloides longirostris (Rudolphi, 1819) Kornyushin, 1983 from pratincole from the Southern Ukraine are discribed. The morphology of G. porale is described in details. An interesting new observation is that testes are lacking in female proglottides of G. porale; the structures described in literature as testes in hermaphroditic proglottides are, in fact, ovarian lobes. The new cestode species Wardium (s. l.) tauricum sp. n. is described. It is characterised by aploparaksoid hooks, 13-15 μm long, and conical armed cirrus, 20-22 μm long. Another cestode species, Wardium (s. l.) sp., is identified to the generic level only. It differs from all the species of the genus in the size and armament of the cirrus; however, no scolex was present in the material studied.
