Abstract

The article* focuses on the dynamics of contemporary beliefs related to involuntary childlessness. Firstly, the methodological issues of collecting source material on delicate matters and the advantages of anonymous and narrative presentation modes in certain contexts will be discussed. Secondly, conclusions drawn from the collected material, i.e. the temporary and changeable nature of those beliefs, their relations with the mass media, the social and the individual aspects and the motifs of guilt and supernatural punishment in the context of identity issues will be presented, concluding that such belief-based models of explanation and help-seeking eventually function as a mental self-defence mechanism.

Abstract

Author analyses the use of new technologies by the pedagogy students from the generation of digital natives focusing on using the functions of mobile electronic devices and basic functions of Internet. Data has been collected with Google Forms. They allow to collect the data very quick, to see the responses immediately and to export the data to a spreadsheet. The aim of the study is to determine the level of student’s competence on the chosen field of information technology. Research shows that students have lower skills than they declare. Author advocates that this situation needs to be improved.

Abstract

The distribution of species of the Xiphinema americanumgroup in Hungary was studied by collecting 272 samples from 53 localities. Samples have been taken from soil in the rhizosphere of 70 plant species. In total, 12.86 % of the samples contained at least one species from the Xiphinema americanum-group. Three species were found: Xiphinema brevicollum, X. pachtaicum and X. simile. Xiphinema brevicollum occurred in 4.41 %, X. pachtaicum in 3.67 % and X. simile in 4.77 % of the samples. New data on plants associated with the reported species and developmental patterns for X. brevicollum and X. pachtaicum are also presented.

Abstract

This paper deals with an implementation of the elliptic curve primality proving (ECPP) algorithm of Atkin and Morain. As the ECPP algorithm is not deterministic, we are developing a strategy to avoid certain situations in which the original implementation could get stuck and to get closer to the situation where the probability that the algorithm terminates successfully is 1. We apply heuristics and tricks in order to test the strategy in our implementation in Magma on numbers of up to 7000 decimal digits and collect data to show the advantages over previous implementations in practice.

Abstract

The premises of international airports in CR are major air transport hubs as well as key elements of critical infrastructure, belonging to the very high risk category. Any infringement leading to limitation or complete shutdown would cause considerable economic and psychological damage. The most important task is to ensure high quality and reliable physical and technical protection of the airport, because especially in the summer months these areas collect large numbers of people and a possible terrorist attack could be fatal. This paper focuses on assessing the possibilities of solving the problem of IEDs hidden in travel luggage, and their initiation by X-rays during security checks.

Abstract

The main objective of the study is at first identifying the expectation gap about audit responsibility and the second quantifying the expectation gap in Iran. In order to collecting data, a questionnaire designed and developed between auditors and investors. Collected data analyzed by employing non-parametric statistics test. The results show that there is expectation gap between auditors and investors in Iran. The current study employed a new approach in the world in order to quantifying the expectation gap. It gives the more strength to other researchers in order to measuring audit expectation gap in the world.

Abstract

Lidar has provided significant benefits for forest development and engineering operations and provides a good means to collect information on forest stands.

A common analysis using LiDAR data computes the CHM as a difference between DSM and DTM, create a DTM from the ground returns and a DSM from the first returns and subtract the two rasters, but how exactly are generated the DTM and the DSM. Irregular height variations, called data pits are present in the CHM and appear when the first Lidar return is far below the canopy. The purpose of this study is an approach that computes the CHM directly from height-normalized LiDAR points.

Abstract

3D scanning is the most modern method of unlimited possibilities based on laser technology. Its main advantage is the speed of obtaining large amounts of data in a very short time, which gives a huge advantage over existing methods of the measuring. Scanning provides opportunities for use in engineering works, geodetic and the inventory of buildings and objects of a high complexity, as well as in studies of damage or deformation of the structure. 3D scanner is a device, which with high accuracy collects data about the shape and texture of the tested object and its surroundings in the form of a point cloud.

Abstract

This paper presents the results obtained from geodetic measurements and processing the data with the objective to determine geometrical parameters of an elevator shaft applying classical as well as modern approaches for obtaining the measured data. The intention was to verify the possibility to apply the terrestrial laser scanning (TLS) method as a suitable, efficient and precise method for collecting spatial data.

Abstract

This special issue of Perspectives on Federalism collects papers mostly presented at the General Conference of the European Consortium of Political Research in September 2014. The issue contains five papers dealing with the role, the status, the dynamics, and the functions of sub-national constitutional politics and sub-national constitutionalism in a number of member states of the EU as well as in a comparative, non-EU perspective. Even though the papers take different perspectives on the topic at hand, they all engage with the contribution sub-national constitutions can make to democracy and the nationstate within as well as outside of Europe.
