Human talent forecasting

Abstract

The demand for talent has increased while the offer has declined and these worrying trends don’t seem to show any sign of change in the near future. According to Bloomberg Businessweek, USA, Canada, UK, and Japan (among many others) will face varying degrees of talent shortages in almost every industry in the coming years. The performed study focuses on identifying patterns which relates to human skills. Recently, with the new demand and increasing visibility, human resources are seeking a more strategic role by harnessing data mining methods. This can be achieved by discovering generated patterns from existing useful data in HR databases. The main objective of the paper is to determine which data mining algorithm suits best for extracting knowledge from human resource data, when in it comes to determining how suited is a candidate for a specific job. First of all, it must be determined a way to evaluate a candidate as objective as possible and rate the candidate with a mark from 0 to 10. To do so, some data sets had to be generated with different numbers of values or different values and wore processed using Weka. The results had been plotted so that it would be easier to interpret. Also, the study shows the importance of using large volumes of data in order to take informed decisions has recently become extremely discussed in most organizations. While finances, marketing and other departments within a company receive data systems and customized analysis, human resources are still not supported by expert systems to process large data volumes. The software prototype designed for the experiment rates individuals (working for the company, or in trials) on a scale from 0 to 10, offering the decision makers an objective analysis. This way, a company looking for talent will know whether the person applying for the job is suited or not, and how much the hiring will influence the overall rating of the department.

Burgeoning Data Repository Systems, Characteristics, and Development Strategies: Insights of Natural Resources and Environmental Scientists

Abstract

Currently, we are witnessing the emergence and abundance of many different data repositories and archival systems for scientific data discovery, use, and analysis. With the burgeoning of available data-sharing platforms, this study addresses how scientists working in the fields of natural resources and environmental sciences navigate these diverse data sources, what their concerns and value propositions are toward multiple data discovery channels, and most importantly, how they perceive the characteristics and compare the functionalities of different types of data repository systems. Through a user community research of domain scientists on their data use dynamics and insights, this research provides strategies and discusses ideas on how to leverage these different platforms. Furthermore, it proposes a top–down, novel approach to the processes of searching, browsing, and visualizing for the dynamic exploration of environmental data.

Assessment of Employees Level of Awareness in the Aspect of Information Security

Abstract

The strategic importance of information for the functioning of each economic entity forces entrepreneurs to properly protect them against loss, unauthorized disclosure or unauthorized modification. Hence, organizations build complex security systems taking into account state-of-the-art technical solutions, while belittling often the most important element, which is the human factor. It should be emphasized that it is the intentional or accidental actions of the human that can lead to the loss of information security. In addition, it is also the potential of human capabilities and skills can provide an effective defense against the failure or technical security.

The article presents the basic stages of human resource management in the aspect of information security. Complementing these considerations will be the presentation and discussion of the results of surveys aimed at assessing the level of employee awareness in the area of information security.

Big Data Analysis and Simulation of Distributed Marine Green Energy Resources Grid-Connected System

Abstract

In order to improve the working stability of distributed marine green energy resources grid-connected system, we need the big data information mining and fusion processing of grid-connected system and the information integration and recognition of distributed marine green energy grid-connected system based on big data analysis method, and improve the output performance of energy grid-connected system. This paper proposed a big data analysis method of distributed marine green energy resources grid-connected system based on closed-loop information fusion and auto correlation characteristic information mining. This method realized the big data closed-loop operation and maintenance management of grid-connected system, and built the big data information collection model of marine green energy resources grid-connected system, and reconstructs the feature space of the collected big data, and constructed the characteristic equation of fuzzy data closed-loop operation and maintenance management in convex spaces, and used the adaptive feature fusion method to achieve the auto correlation characteristics mining of big data operation and maintenance information, and improved the ability of information scheduling and information mining of distributed marine green energy resources grid-connected system. Simulation results show that using this method for the big data analysis of distributed marine green energy resources grid-connected system and using the multidimensional analysis technology of big data can improve the ability of information scheduling and information mining of distributed marine green energy resources grid-connected system, realizing the information optimization scheduling of grid-connected system. The output performance of grid connected system has been improved.

The paper presents the scope of substantive and technical upgrade of database “Protected areas in Poland” at the Institute of Environmental Protection - National Research Institute (IEP-NRI) and the resulting opportunities of providing new information. The modernised databases facilitate analyses and in-depth studies into the designated areas in Poland.

Geoinformation Systems as a Tool of the Integrated Tourist Spaces Management

Abstract

Introduction. Currently tourist activity management is in need of creating special conditions for the development of integrated management tools based on the general information and analytical base. Material and methods. The creation of architecture and the content of geoinformation and hybrid information systems are oriented at the usage of the Integrated Tourist Spaces Management (ITSM) to set up a specific claim related to the features of management model. The authors created the concept of tourist space. The information and the analytical system are used to create the information model of tourist space. Information support development of ITSM system is a sort of a hybrid system: an expert system constructed on the basis of GIS. Results and conclusions. By means of GIS collecting, storage, analysis and graphic visualization of spatial data and the related information on the objects presented in an expert system is provided. The offered approach leads to the formation of an information system and the analytical maintenance of not only human decision-making, but it also promotes the creation of new tourist products based on more and more differentiated inquiries of clients or a ratio of the price and quality (from the point of view of satisfaction of inquiries).

Database “Protected areas in Poland” and possibilities of its use in education and raising environmental awareness of the society

Abstract

The article focuses on the presentation of database “Protected areas in Poland,” complete with information resources and available options for data collecting, storing, sharing, and searching. Possibilities for using the database as a tool for ecological education of young people were presented. Utility of the database was discussed as a comprehensive source of information for other social groups and representatives of professions that deal with environmental resources and their management.

Organizational network management — new quality in strategic management of research-development units

Abstract

Market organizations apply multi-channel communication with clients, analyse and use signals from their clients to support development of products and services. Leading companies manage relations with employees in a similar way. This is particularly beneficial in organizations employing knowledge-workers. Employees, carrying out their tasks, as a result of interaction with clients and internal limitations, along with formal organizational structure spontaneously create a "fast reaction" network. Thanks to the analysis of the network of internal relations and visualization of data in online platforms organizations can investigate the methods of work and cooperation of teams and employees' behaviours. Organizational Network Analysis (ONA) is a new field, which provides strategic knowledge - about cooperation in an organization, the role of its units and particular employees, allocation of resources, relational potential and barriers for development. Online visualization of the network of relations accesssible for employees allows them to learn about the organization and better carry out their tasks, providing them with information about people with similar knowledge, or knowledge necessary for the employees, about cooperation of people and teams, flow of information and decisions. The analysis of organizational networks serves the purpose of diagnosing an organization and conducting continuous HR processes, e.g. codification of knowledge, identification of talents, organization of trainings and development, it delivers data for the decision-making process and communication and knowledge management. Using the example of the Polish participatory platform "Mapa organizacji" (Organization map) the author shows how to collect and use analytical data for the purpose of managing talents of an organization in an optimum way. Thanks to the visualization of this data, in a network you can highlight employees with various profiles e.g. sources of field knowledge, organizational and project talents, brokers of information, opinion leaders, or e.g. various styles of functioning of managers. Observing and measuring cooperation within teams and between them it is possible to plan and monitor the effects of activities facilitating communication and to efficiently manage knowledge and change e.g. by locating and breaking down silos. The application allows business owners and HR teams to manage talent the processes of "soft HR" with the use of analytical data, among others: induction of new employees, internal mobility and succession, identifying employees who could potentially drop out, internal trainers and mentors, developing cooperation where it's missing and reducing its excess, building communities of practice and project teams.

It Systems Security Management in Migration Process

This paper looks at the issue of IT systems migration as well as problems related to security policy in migration processes. Problem of migration is viewed in a broad context of changes which occur during construction or modernization of an IT system. Migration projects were classified against the background of wide spectrum of informatization strategy issues and sources of threats to information security were pointed out. Also, guidelines for improvement of security in migration process were presented.
