Abstract

In this paper selected aspects of numerical modelling of bending pipes process are described. Elasto-plastic material model was used in COMSOL FEM environment. The results of numerical analyses of two kinds of steel were presented. The correctness of the proposed model was verified based on comparison shapes of deformed pipe profile obtained at the ending step of bending both from numerical simulations and experiment.

Abstract

A tool with a punch of ø5 mm and a die with a specially formed circular cavity and an annular gap was used for mechanical joining of thin hot-dip galvanized steel sheets. The active parts of punch and die were covered by PVD coating of ZrN type with LARC technology. The punches and the dies were tested in a complex tool by joining thin hot-dip galvanized steel sheets with the pressing force of 7,000 N. Decohesion of coating with width of 100 – 200 μm was observed in the perimeter of cylindrical part of ø5×4 mm in the in edge of punch radius R = 0.5 mm with deposited ZrN coating after the creation of 150 mechanical joints. The decohesion of PVD coating occurred mainly in the surroundings of the radius R = 0.5 mm on the front plane of ø15 mm part.

Abstract

This paper details the numerical modeling of composite absorbers and an assessment of the influence of such deformation elements on a bus during frontal collision with a car. The absorber itself is designed as an assembly of thin-walled composite wound tubes oriented in the vehicle direction of travel. During the impact the tubes are crushed, causing energy absorption. Crash simulations were performed at various speeds using differing scenarios with the deformational member as well as without it. Comparative diagrams of force and velocity of the car and deformation of the bus structure were assessed

Abstract

The cable-pulley system is widely used for its advantages. In this paper, application of a new algorithm for the calculation of cables on pulleys is presented. Unlike other algorithms, this algorithm enables to take the magnitude of the radius of each pulley into account. This new algorithm is implemented in the RFEM program because of its higher accuracy and efficiency. Comparison of the commonly used algorithm, which ignores pulley radius, and the new algorithm is presented.

Abstract

The paper contains a numerical analysis of interface zone steel-titanium bimetal obtained by explosive cladding method. Due to the waviness of the zone, and various properties of the constituent material of the materials type contain structural notch. Therefore it is important inter alia in terms of presentation of the results of fatigue are the maximum stresses that occur just in the area of the zone. In the paper the stress concentration factor and the proposed method of modelling the joint zone of a sinusoidal profile, characterized by the same coefficient of stress concentration at the actual profile.

Abstract

This paper presents the study of the impact of vibration induced by the movement of the railway rolling stock on the Forum Gdańsk structure. This object is currently under construction and is located over the railway tracks in the vicinity of the Gdańsk Głowny and Gdańsk Środmieście railway stations. The analysis covers the influence of vibrations on the structure itself and on the people within. The in situ measurements on existing parts of the structure allow us to determine environmental excitations used for validation and verification of the derived FEM model. The numerical calculations made the estimates of the vibration amplitudes propagating throughout the whole structure possible.

Abstract

The aim of the work was to perform numerical analysis of a steel-concrete composite floor located in a LIPSK type building. A numerical model of the analytically designed floor was performed. The floor was in a six-storey, retail and service building. The thickness of a prefabricated slab was 100 mm. The two-row, crisscrossed reinforcement of the slab was made from φ16 mm rods with a spacing of 150 x 200 mm. The span of the beams made of steel IPE 160 profiles was 6.00 m and they were spaced every 1.20 m. The steelconcrete composite was obtained using 80×16 Nelson fasteners. The numerical analysis was carried out using the ADINA System based on the Finite Element Method. The stresses and strains in the steel and concrete elements, the distribution of the forces in the reinforcement bars and cracking in concrete were evaluated. The FEM model was made from 3D-solid finite elements (IPE profile and concrete slab) and truss elements (reinforcement bars). The adopted steel material model takes into consideration the plastic state, while the adopted concrete material model takes into account material cracks.

Abstract

Residual stresses lower the utility value of plastic parts. Determination of the induced stresses can help deal with them. Measurements are time-consuming and expensive. A new approach to measuring residual stresses, such as indentation measurement, can lead to the simple determination of residual stresses. The paper shows the relationship between the condition of injection moulding, the subsequent residual stress, and hardness through thickness. The computer model displays the field and magnitude of residual stress in the samples. The model results are then compared to measured parameters after indentation and the magnitude of residual stress determined by the standard hole drilling method.

Abstract

An unsteady magnetohydromagnetic natural convection on the Couette flow of electrically conducting water at 4°C (Pr = 11.40) in a rotating system has been considered. A Finite Element Method (FEM) was employed to find the numerical solutions of the dimensionless governing coupled boundary layer partial differential equations. The primary velocity, secondary velocity and temperature of water at 4°C as well as shear stresses and rate of heat transfer have been obtained for both ramped temperature and isothermal plates. The results are independent of the mesh (grid) size and the present numerical solutions through the Finite Element Method (FEM) are in good agreement with the existing analytical solutions by the Laplace Transform Technique (LTT). These are shown in tabular and graphical forms.

Abstract

In this paper, a comparison between pavement responses is performed by considering two different models for the linear viscoelastic behavior of an asphalt concrete layer. Two models, the Maxwell model and the Kelvin-Voigt model, are generalized. The former is used in ABAQUS and the latter in KENLAYER. As a preliminary step, an appropriate structural model for a flexible pavement structure is developed in ABAQUS by considering linear elastic behavior for all the layers. According to this model, when the depth of a structural model is equal to 6 meters, there is a good agreement between the ABAQUS and KENLAYER results. In this model, the thickness of the pavement is equal to 30 centimeters, and the thickness of the subgrade is equal to 5.7 meters. Then, the viscoelastic behavior is considered for the asphalt concrete layer, and the results from KENLAYER and ABAQUS are compared with each other. The results indicate that the type of viscoelastic model applied to an asphalt concrete layer has a significant effect on the prediction of pavement responses and, logically, the predicted performance of a pavement.
