We report the mass spectrometric analysis of zeins extracted from degreased maize flour with either an aqueous 70% ethanol solution or 60% acetonitrile containing 10 mM dithiothreitol. The analysis was performed on a MALDI-TOF mass spectrometer using α-cyano-4-hydroxycinnamic acid as matrix. The method allowed the detection of α-, β- and γ-zeins, but not δ-zeins and was used for the analysis of zein content in the maize inbred KWS 3381 and in commercial flour at different flour particles sizes: between 710 μm and 1.0 mm, between 250 μm and 355 μm and smaller than 100 μm.

The present study focused on highlighting the pathology associated with carpal tunnel syndrome. Carpal tunnel syndrome is a susceptible neuropathy of the upper limb, its appearance being favored by the coexistence of other chronic pathologies.
The study group consisted of 163 patients treated in the Plastic Surgery Clinic of the Emergency County Hospital in Constanţa, men and women of adulthood. The only exclusion criteria was non-compliant patients.
The results were consistent with other studies published in the literature, with an over three times higher incidence of female sex.
The decades of age most prone to the disease were the fourth, fifth, and sixth.
Approximately one third of patients experienced bilateral carpal tunnel syndrome.
A particularly important presence of the triad was found: hygh blood pressure, obesity and diabetes mellitus, at least one of which was present in over 70% of patients.
The etiopathogenicity of the carpal tunnel syndrome is becoming clearer, the “Golden Trio” dominating the clinical picture in most patients.

The authors conducted a clinical trial in connection with topical treatment of wound burned they used an approved IIb medical device used in two forms: cream and compresses impregnated: Biotitus-Derma (a product containing plant extracts).
The study was conducted at the County Emergency Hospital Constanta, on 34 patients with intermediate thermal burns; study was made on the basis of welldefined and did not include the deep and circular burns on the extremities (where incisions were imposed pressure relief).
Efficacy of topical treatment with Biotitus-Derma was evaluated on clinical criteria and evolutionary and concluded that it is a useful therapeutic option in the treatment of burned wound having a good effect on wound infection control, and a specific effect epithelization (healing).

In the present paper, the interaction between copper ions and proteins is presented, in order to elaborate a simple and rapid spectrophotometric assay of casein in milk. Under alkaline conditions, copper ions form the biuret complex with the proteins, which can be used in protein determination. Although very specific, the biuret method is less sensitive. Using insoluble copper phosphate, casein is able to extract copper ions, with which it forms the biuret complex, while either the complex or copper ions could be determined in the ultraviolet range. Indeed, an increased absorbance of biuret complex at 215 nm was found. Nevertheless, copper ions can be determined in UV as well, their concentration being proportional to that of casein. When used tetraglycine instead casein, mass spectrometric measurements at pH higher than 11 revealed the formation of complexes with many copper ions bound to each peptide bond-containing molecule. Nevertheless, on diluting the biuret solution the complex may dissociate leading to very complex UV spectra that should be further studied.

An ANSYS simulation of the multiphase complex fluid flow motion in a centrifugal device (tricanter) is presented in the paper. This centrifugal device is designed for one step efficient solution for contaminated river water processing with oil and oil products. The proposed tricanter is one of the main objectives of the project named “Common strategy to prevent the Danube’s pollution technological risks with oil and oil products CLEANDANUBE” financed by European Commission within the frame of Romania-Bulgaria Trans-Border Cooperation Program 2007 - 2013 (grant MIS-ETC code 653). Results for liquid phases (water and oil products) and for solid particles motion are presented graphically and are commented.
