Abstract

In this paper, sexuality will be examined with regards to the parental attitudes as well as the public curriculum of various countries across the globe at the primary school level. The outcomes will be explored in relation to the type of education and dissemination of information provided to children and conclusions will be made based on these outcomes. The countries of Canada, the United States, Kenya, Australia and Ghana will be studied in detail. The outcomes will be looked at within some global comparison and proportions.

Abstract

In this study we explored the perception of gender stereotypes among elementary school teachers. Respondents (280 teachers) answered questions about their perception of the suitable behaviour according to the gender. Significant interactions emerge between teachers’ and pupils’ gender. The primary purpose of this paper was to find out on how teachers’ stereotypes affect their behavior towards elementary school-children. Results of the research were generally consistent with gender role stereotypes.

Abstract

The purpose of this study is to evaluate children in Bratislava, Slovakia. The survey sample consisted of 276 children aged 9 -12 who were tested using the Children’s Eating Attitude Test as a diagnostic tool for testing young people, who show a proclivity towards having eating issues, a possibility of anorexia, or a possible problem with bulimic tendencies. The study analyses the components of the test and the scores of children to whom it was administered, and come to conclusions as to its usefulness in diagnosing eating issues in children between grades 4 and 6. It also examines the comparisons between the children in Slovakia and the children in Australian studies in order to see if the scores correlate and what similarities and differences are present between the two groups studied.

Abstract

There have been a number of studies investigating the media’s role in body image dissatisfaction, eating disorders, self-esteem, and the internalization of the thin body ideal in young girls and women. However, much of the research focuses on girls ages 10 and older; very few examine those girls of pre-primary or primary age. This paper seeks to explore the studies that do focus on the younger age groups, and understand the relationship between the media and young girls’ self-esteem.

Abstract

Intercultural education advances the comprehension of different people and cultures. It emphasizes teaching that accepts and respects that diversity is normal in all areas of life. It attempts to sensitize the pupil to the concept that we all have developed in varied ways and that different does not mean “wrong”. In the presented article, we deal with a term defined in the context of intercultural education. We think about the way of its implementation in primary education, while respecting all the attributes of cultural differentiation. Intercultural education examines forms of xenophobia, trying to diminish them, and advocates equal opportunities for all. Intercultural education works to modify individuals and institutions and so transform the society (What is intercultural education? Do we in the West have the materials to accomplish this in our classrooms?).
