Abstract

The study aimed to investigate the correlation between concentration of inhaled arsenic trioxide and dynamic changes in hematotoxicity in rats. Wistar rats were randomly divided into four study groups that were treated with saline (control) or arsenic trioxide at a low (0.1 mg/mL), medium (1 mg/mL), or high (10 mg/mL) dose by intratracheal instillation. Blood samples were collected for analysis at 6, 12, 24, 48, and 72 h after exposure. Compared with the control group, intratracheal instillation of arsenic trioxide affected hematopoietic differentiation in rats, leading to blood cell changes that were related to observation time and concentration.

CD20 Expression in the Transplanted Kidney of Patients with Graft Loss and Transient Allograft Dysfunction

This study aimed to explore the relationship between the infiltration of CD20+ B cells and the survival time of a renal allograft and to investigate the role of infiltrated B cells in the rejection of the renal allograft. A total of 40 patients with renal allograft loss due to refractory rejection and 20 patients with transient renal allograft dysfunction were recruited. Renal biopsy was done and CD20 expression was detected by immunohistochemistry. In addition, the survival time of the renal allograft was also obtained. The relationships between the CD20 expression and the survival time of the renal allograft and graft loss due to rejection were analyzed. The associations of gender, age and clinicopathogical types with the CD20 expression were also investigated. The proportion of patients positive for CD20 in the transplanted kidney was higher in patients receiving nephrectomy of the allograft due to rejection than in those with transient allograft dysfunction. The diffuse infiltration of CD20+ B cells was considered as positive staining. In 40 samples from patients with graft loss, 19 had diffuse infiltration of CD20+ B cells (47.5%). In 19 patients positive for CD20, hyperacute rejection was found in 1 patient, acute rejection in 5 and chronic rejection in 13. Statistical analysis showed the CD20 expression was not associated with the age and gender of donors and recipients, regimen for immunosuppressive treatment, cold/warm ischemia time and secondary transplantation. CD20+ B cell infiltration predicts a poor prognosis of patients with kidney transplantation and is one of the risk factors of graft loss.

Abstract

Chronic active Epstein-Barr virus (CAEBV) infection is a systemic Epstein-Barr virus (EBV) positive lymphoprolifetative disease characterized by fever, lymphadenopathy, splenomegaly, unusual pattern of anti- EBV antibodies, and/or increased EBV genomes in affected tissues. Most cases are from Asia. So far, there is hardly any adult case reported from mainland of China. We herein presented a 33-year-old man with fever, facial erythema and rash, lymphadenopathy, lower limbs weakness, splenomegaly and liver lesion. EBV VCA, EA and EBNA were all positive. EBV DNA could be found in serum and PBMC. In situ hybridization of EBV encoded RNA in skin and liver biopsy was positive. Viral load in serum decreased under interferon alpha therapy. To our knowledge, it’s the first adult case reported from mainland of China.

Abstract

In recent years, there has been growing interesting in image encryption based on chaotic maps and wavelet transform. In this paper, a novel scheme for image encryption based on chaotic maps and reversible integer wavelet transform is proposed. Firstly, the cipher key which is related to plain-image is used to generate different parameters and initial values of chaotic maps. Then the plain-image is permuted by the order from chaotic maps, and processed by integer wavelet transform. A part of transform coefficient is diffused by the orbits of chaotic maps. Finally, the cipher image is obtained by inverse integer wavelet transform based on the diffused coefficient. Numerical experimental results and comparing with previous works show that the proposed scheme possesses higher security than previous works, which is suitable for protecting the image information.

Abstract

Background: High plasma B-type natriuretic peptide (BNP) levels in patients with severe chronic heart failure (CHF) often indicate poor ventricular function and poor prognosis. However, in some such patients plasma BNP levels are normal.

Objective: To investigate the clinical implications of BNP levels in patients with severe CHF.

Methods: Fifty-seven patients with severe CHF were divided into group A (13 normal plasma BNP level) and 44 patients (high plasma BNP levels) group B. Diuretics, angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (or angiotensin II receptor antagonist, e.g., metoprolol) and digitalis were used as conventional treatment. The clinical characteristics of all patients in two groups were analyzed and compared.

Results: At the first admission, left ventricular end diastolic diameter in group B was significantly lower than group A (p < 0.05), and the plasma BNP level in group B was significantly higher than group A (p < 0.05). When metoprolol was used, 6 and 5 patients in group A and B could not tolerate the initial dose. In other cases using metoprolol at average maximum tolerance dose of metoprolol 12.5-6.25 and 24.20-11.22 mg/day in group A and B, respectively, there was a significant difference between them (p < 0.05). There were no significant differences in plasma BNP levels between two groups during stable period. The plasma BNP level in group B during acute worsening stage was significantly higher than in the remission stage (962.73-165.00 ng/L vs 876.24-167.70 ng/L, p < 0.05). However, there was no significant difference between group A (74.03-11.18 ng/L) and group B (71.38-11.68 ng/L) (p > 0.05). The mobility of group A was higher than group B (11/12 vs 6/44, p < 0.05). Logistic regression analysis showed that, the plasma BNP level was the independent risk factor for predicting cardiac death (regression coefficient, 3.817; OR, 45.488; 95% CI, 5.322ʺ388.791).

Conclusion: In patients with severe CHF, normal plasma BNP level suggests depletion of BNP secretion and further deterioration of cardiac function, indicating a poor prognosis.

Abstract

Objective To observe the expression of inflammatory molecules in bone marrow immune cells of patients with immune-related hematocytopenia (IRH), and to investigate the immune mechanism and clinical significance of the disease.

Methods Total of 36 IRH patients were selected as observation group and 30 healthy people were taken as control group. Serum cytokines levels, activity of immunocytes and expression of HLA-DR were detected. Immune fluorescence was applied to observe the expression state of immunologic molecules and cytokines in IRH patients.

Results Serum cytokines were elevated in various degrees in observation group. Compared with the control group, the cytokines levels were significantly higher (P < 0.05). After treatement with immunosuppressive drugs, the serum levels of cytokines in observation group reduced to a level close to the control group. HLADR were upregulated in activated tissue basophils, eosinophils, dendritic cells (DC) and macrophages of bone marrow in IRH patients, and POX activity in these immunocytes of IRH was higher than that of the control group. Immune molecules were highly expressed in eosinophils, DC and macrophages.

Conclusions It is demonstrated that antibodies or self-reactive lymphocytes were produced in IRH marrow, which would cause lesions of hemocytes, and lead to pathological process finally. Structure of hematopoietic cells mutated and these cells might be acted as target cells of immunocytes in the pathological process. Immunocytes could secrete inflammatory factors and lead to immunologic injury of hemocyte.

Abstract

To study the influence of the random load on the V-lock chain ring for mining, the numerical simulation technology is used. The dynamic tension is obtained by using the dynamic model of the plough. The life and damage nephograms are obtained by using ANSYS Workbench. The analysis results show that the short fatigue life region of the V-lock chain ring for mining is mainly concentrated on the transition region between the medial straight edge and arc, and the fatigue damage of the link chain on the side of the motion direction of the plow head is larger than that on the other side. This link chain has strong anti-fatigue performance.

ABSTRACT

Aiming at accurately distinguishing modeless component and natural vibration mode terms from data series of nonlinear and non-stationary processes, such as Vortex-Induced Vibration (VIV), a new empirical mode decomposition method has been developed in this paper. The key innovation related to this technique concerns the method to decompose modeless component from non-stationary process, characterized by a predetermined ‘maximum intrinsic time window’ and cubic spline. The introduction of conceptual modeless component eliminates the requirement of using spurious harmonics to represent nonlinear and non-stationary signals and then makes subsequent modal identification more accurate and meaningful. It neither slacks the vibration power of natural modes nor aggrandizes spurious energy of modeless component. The scale of the maximum intrinsic time window has been well designed, avoiding energy aliasing in data processing. Finally, it has been applied to analyze data series of vortex-induced vibration processes. Taking advantage of this newly introduced empirical decomposition method and mode identification technique, the vibration analysis about vortex-induced vibration becomes more meaningful.
