Abstract

The study is a comparative analysis of the characteristics of air temperature and atmospheric precipitations in winter seasons from the WMO reference periods (1961 - 1990, 1981 – 2010) compared with last 7 years (2010 – 2016). There is a continuous increase of air temperature in winter, from −2,0°C between 1961-1990, to −1,1°C between 2010-2016, so a heating of 0,9°C. In the last 7 years (2010-2016) the average number of frosty nights (nights with minimum temperature of ≤ −10°C) was reduced by 18% compared to the period 1961-1990 and by 3% compared to the period 1981-2010. In the same period (2010 – 2016), the rainfall were higher in winter, respectively by 17% than during 1961-1990 and by 22% than during 1981-2010. There is an increase of torrential character of precipitation, more pronounced in the southern region of Moldova.

Abstract

The water catchment area of the Trotuş river lies on about 4340 square kilometers of which 66% are in the mountain area of the Central Group of the Eastern Carpathians (Moldo-Transilvans). In recent years the manifestation of natural hazards aggressiveness multiplied. In 2005 (12-13 July) and 2010 (26-27 June) Trotuş Valley was affected by strong floods that have produced great material damage. Hydro-technical works carried out after the 2005 summer hazard were swept away by the 2010 hazard, when were affected about 3,000 households in the upper course of the Trotus, most of the damage being recorded on the Agăş Creek Valley to the confluence with the Trotuş, the administrative territory of the commune Agăș, where about 2000 household suffered. The late melting snow on the Ciuc and Tarcău Mountains peaks mixed with summer rains determined total isolation of the Cotumba, Sulța, Goioasa and Coșnea hamlets. Provisory bridges realized on the main roads on the side valleys, where are many hamlets, renewed in 2009 summer, were quickly clogged and then swept away by the rough waters of the Trotus and its tributaries. In the upper basin of the Trotus. Over the past 20 years have been recorded up phenomena of paroxysm of the climatic and hydrologic hazards among which the creeks Grohotiş and Sulţa flooded the villages Goioasa and Sulţa. On the 12-13 July, 2005 the Creek Agăş flooded a part of the Agăş village, about 2 kilometers, in line, of households. Drăcoiu creek broke the wall of channeled flood reached exceptional values, the maximum flow at Vrânceni hydrometric station being of 2800 cubic meters/s (probability of overflow 0,5%) and the flood volume here was the biggest of all the existing measurements.

Abstract

This study is based on 3 years of hourly observations of global solar radiation (2014-2016), at a new weather station installed in the region of Central Moldavian Plateau, at Mădârjac (47.05°N, 27.25°E, 270 m). The main characteristics of annual, monthly and daily regime of global radiation were emphasized using for comparison similar data from Iașioficial weather station. Smaller annual amount of global solar radiation than those observed in previous studies were observed, reaching 4734 MJ/m2 in Iași and 4454 MJ/m2 in Mădârjac. An altidudinal gradient of global solar radiation close to 140 MJ/m2 was identified for the hilly region of Moldova. Despite the overall higher values in Iași, 30% of days indicates higher values of this parameter at Mădârjac weather station. These results can be used for the evaluation of the photo-voltaic potential in the region, but also to understand the altitudinal differences of solar radiation in the hilly region in Moldavia, since the only long-range actinometric stations from this part of Romania, Iași and Galați, are located at low altitudes.

Abstract

The study is a comparative analysis of the characteristics of atmospheric precipitations in spring seasons from the WMO reference periods (1961 - 1990, 1981 – 2010) compared with last 7 years (2010 – 2016). In 14 april 2016 a meteorological event was produced in the Iași area who have produced material damage, flooded streets and obstruction of traffic. In the spring seasons of the last 7 years (2010-2016) the atmospheric precipitation amounts were with 8% higher than during 1981 – 2010 and were apropiate on mean value of the 1961 – 1990. In the period of 1961 – 2016 were a continuous increase of the mean number of days with precipitation > 30 mm per day and the half of total number of days with more than 40 mm per day were recorded in the last 16 years. We consider that an increase of torrential character of precipitation in the spring season in Iași area.

Abstract

All those who spent our holidays in the countryside to our gradparents or relatives, we heard about the elders’ stories about storms that rained frogs and fish. I also remember such a story that occured in the villages of Covasna river basin in 1970. The elders were speaking about such a heavy rain accompanied by fish that would have occurred due to an overheating of the active surface in July or August 1946 as well as in 1968 (!). Then, out of the blue, out of the forest, from ESE, black clouds accompanied by thunder and lightning occured, while frogs and fish fell among heavy drops of dirty rain.
