Abstract

The male of Dolichomitus sirenkoi Varga, 2012 is described and figured. D. sericeus (Hartig, 1847) and D. quercicolus Zwakhals, 2010 are new records for Ukraine. Cerambycidae beetles, Stenostola sp. and Plagionotus arcuatus (Linnaeus, 1758), are recorded as hosts of D. quercicolus for the first time. Additional material of Dolichomitus Smith, 1877 species, recorded from the Ukrainian Carpathians is listed. Seasonal dynamics and high-altitude zone distribution of Dolichomitus species are discussed.

Abstract

Exeristes longiseta (Ratzeburg, 1844) and E. roborator (Fabricius, 1793), the Carpathian species of the genus Exeristes Förster, 1869, are reviewed. Exeristes longiseta is recorded for Ukraine for the first time. The following synonymy is established: E. ruficollis (Gravenhorst, 1829) = E. denticulator Aubert, 1983 syn. n. An illustrated key to Western Palaearctic species of the genus is provided.

Abstract

A list of the Carpathian species of the tribe Ephialtini associated with spider hosts is provided. Totally, 33 species are present in the region, 27 of them in the Ukrainian part and 22 in Romania. Acrodactyla quadrisculpta (Gravenhorst, 1820), Clistopyga canadensis Provancher, 1880, Schizopyga frigida Cresson, 1870, the genus Sinarachna Townes, 1960, with two species, S. nigricornis (Holmgren, 1860) and S. pallipes (Holmgren, 1860), Tromatobia lineatoria (Villers, 1789), and Zatypota discolor (Holmgren, 1860) are recorded for Ukraine for the fi rst time. Clistopyga sziladyi Kiss, 1959 and Polysphincta vexator Fitton, Shaw & Gauld, 1988 are new Romanian records. Polysphincta longa Kasparyan, 1976 is a new record for Ukraine and Romania. A redescription of Schizopyga coxator Constantineanu, 1973 and illustrated comparative notes about S. coxator and S. circulator (Panzer, 1800) are provided. Th e paper also contains an illustrated key to European species of the genus Clistopyga Gravenhorst, 1829.

Abstract

A list of the Ukrainian Carpathian species of the tribe Delomeristini is reviewed. All ten recorded species are new for the studied region. The genus Atractogaster Kriechbaumer, 1872 with a single European species, A. semisculptus Kriechbaumer, 1872, Delomerista borealis Walkley, 1960, D. novita (Cresson, 1870), D. pfankuchi Brauns, 1905, and Perithous speculator Haupt, 1954 are recorded for Ukraine for the first time. Diagnostic features and illustrations of some species, seasonal dynamics and high-altitude zone distribution in the Ukrainian Carpathians are provided.

Abstract

Subjects (n=13) did 30 workouts with their left leg on an Inertial Exercise Trainer (IET), while their right leg served as an untreated control. Before and after the 30 workouts, they underwent isokinetic strength tests (knee and ankle extensors of both legs) whose peak torque (PT), time to PT (TTPT), and rate of torque development (RTD) values were each analyzed with 2(leg)×2(time)×3(velocity) analysis of variances (ANOVAs), with repeated measures per independent variable. Peak force (PF) and total work (TW) data were measured from each IET workout, and they represent time course strength changes produced by our exercise intervention. PF and TW values for the three IET exercises that comprised each workout were each analyzed with one-way ANOVAs with time as the independent variable. Results included significant ankle and knee extensor PT increases, whereby the left leg achieved higher values at posttesting, but there were no significant TTPT changes and a time effect for ankle extensor RTD. Our data show that PF and TW each had significant increases over time, with the latter exhibiting greater gains over the 30-workout intervention. Our results imply that the IET yields strength gains over time comparable to standard resistive exercise hardware.
