Background and Aims: Atherosclerosis has become a prominent health problem in Indonesia. Based on food as medicine concept, tempe gembus (a fermented food from Indonesia) is well known having the content of nutrient that influences atherosclerosis parameter. Research aimed to prove the influence of different variation of tempe gembus that was given without additional treatment (X1), with the steam blanching heating (X2), and was added the bromelain enzyme (X3) to the level of serum Homocysteine (Hcy) and Malondialdehyde (MDA) of rat’s blood that was given the atherogenic diet.

Material and Methods: The research of posttest randomized controlled group design on 35 Sprague dawley rats were divided into two main groups as follow; they were 2 control groups (called K− and K+) and 3 treatment groups. All of the treatment groups were given tempe gembus of 25 gram/kg rat body weight.

Results: The results showed that group variation of tempe gembus had a lower mean of Hcy and MDA levels than disease group (K+). However, a significant effect of tempe gembus was only decrease in MDA level (ANOVA test p = 0.001). Treatment X1 and X3 had meaningful differences to decrease MDA levels.

Conclusion: Tempe gembus variation can decrease the MDA level significantly and decrease the Hcy level however, without statistical significance.


The objective of the present study was to analyze the morphometric variations of the three presumed taxa within the Barbonymus group, namely B. gonionotus, referred to locally as naleh; B. schwanenfeldii, referred to locally as lampam-A; and Barbonymus sp. referred to locally as lampam-B. The naleh samples were collected from Nagan Raya District, while lampam-A and lampam-B were collected from Aceh Tamiang District, Indonesia. Traditional morphometric characters were measured in 150 fish samples (50 individuals of every taxon). The results of univariate (ANOVA) and multivariate (Discriminant function analysis, DFA) analyses showed that lampam-A and lampam-B have overlapping morphological characteristics, whereas naleh were distinctly different. Therefore, it is presumed that lampan A and lampan B are the same species of B. schwanenfeldii. It was concluded that the morphometric data indicated that there are two species of Barbonymus in Aceh waters, i.e., B. schwanenfeldii and B. gonionotus.


The current publication of scientific journals is transitioning from a print format format to an electronic format, which has a different management model than before. Publication of scientific journals is an important thing in the existence of universities. In the dissemination of science results of an education, research, and community service generated by college civitas (Students & Lecturers) can be done with the publication of scientific journals. The purpose of this study is to determine the strategy of management publication of scientific journals that publish many articles of students at higher education. The type of this research is qualitative descriptive research. The research data were collected by indepth interview the Director of Graduate, Head of journal publishing unit, and staff of journal publishing unit. This research was conducted at the Journal Publishing Unit of Postgraduate of Brawijaya University. The managers of scientific journal publications should be continue to improve scientific publishing services and the quality of published articles, so that the management of scientific publications can compete with other electronic journals. The development of electronic journals in Indonesia has grown rapidly, within three years of electronic journal publication in Indonesia has increased sharply, from 1500 journals in 2012 to 16280 journals in 2016. This is a challenge for managers of scientific publications in Brawijaya University. The strategy in developing the management of scientific journal publications of students is to hold training activities of scientific journal writing for students to be able to provide the availability of quality articles. Benchmarking activities and management training for journal editing teams to maintain quality management and scientific journal publications. In addition, it is necessary to improve the reputation of scientific journals by paying attention to the Impact Factor; Index Journal, Ranking Journal, h-index, Number of Cites, & Percentage of Rejection Rates in managed journals.
