Transport and its major part of transport means is currently based on the internal combustion engine principle. For these engines, the primary energy source is oil, natural gas, coal, biomass and others. These primary energy sources and their processing in refineries and factories are used to produce products that are used to drive engines - fuels. From what energy sources these fuels will be produced and what technology will be used to process and produce them is also an important. This whole process must take the reduction of total emissions into account. Future fuels can be considered synthetically produced diesel or hydrogen, which can later significantly affect the decrease in emissions from their processing, production and subsequent combustion of these more environmentally friendly types of fuels. This article processes analyses and development of basic pollutants, total emissions and energy consumption in the Slovak Republic and the EU. In the second part there is an evaluation of the emissions trend development in transport in the EU and Slovakia.
Integrated passenger transport system consists of many factors with various impacts on the entire system quality. In passenger transport, there are mostly individual passengers therefore it is difficult to determine all transport requirements. In the passenger transport system, there are several modes of transport, but passengers mostly use road and rail transport. Passenger transport system is influenced by many qualitative factors with various impacts. The paper is focused on analysis of the role of railways in integrated passenger transport systems. The analysis is from passenger point of view because the key element in railway passenger transport is the passenger (customer), who requires the transport from one place to another. A basic precondition for accomplishing the main requirement (transport), is making the complete offer which provides not only transport, but also other complementary services. There are several types of passenger trains, which jointly create a part of integrated transport system. Quality of this transport system depends on train route topology, timetable of trains, number and location of all stations and stops. Primary function of the transport system is providing transport for passengers on regional, national-interregional and international level; therefore, the analysis involves these levels.
In recent years lean thinking (also referred as slim) increases its popularity not only in industry, but also in the entire business world. There are many confirmed effects demonstrating the high effectiveness of this philosophy: a clear improvement of economic indicators, an increase in current satisfaction and the acquisition of new clients; better, stable quality of offered products and services; efficient organization of production; more effective management; high productivity of work and production; minimizing the costs of production and storage of stocks. Why is Lean implementation in our domestic conditions not easy and sometimes ineffective? In this study we will try to answer these very important questions.
This paper focus on description of railway safety system radioblock and its application. Content of the paper describes usefulness of this system on those railway lines, which have been operated according to norm about simplified supervision of railway operation. Theoretical basis of the research is proved by case study on the railway line Číčenice – Volary (Czechia). This railway line is the only railway line with this safety system nowadays. Application of these issues is evaluated from safety and technology point of view. There are some suggestions for other railway lines, which are suitable for radioblock railway safety system.
Users in transport, forwarding and logistics companies use the mobile technologies for connect to existing information systems. By solving the ERIC Mobile project, these services will also be available on mobile devices. The article is aimed at lancing the requirements of all types of customers for the ERIC Mobile app. After the basic characteristics of the mobile device, the operation systems, the application development typology, the authors focus on the developing application “ERIC Mobile”. The aim of the article is to provide relevant requirements for further research and development of the software application of the rail freight information centre in Europe for end users of mobile devices such as smartphones and tablets.
The article justifies the application of gas fuels for supplying auxiliary ship boilers. It presents legal regulations on maritime environmental protection areas and their requirements which are in power. It shows the chronology of introduced limitations on sulphur and nitrogen dioxide emissions and thresholds of carbon dioxide emission reduction expressed by EEDI (Energy Efficiency Design Indicator) and EEOI (Energy Efficiency Operational Indicator). Ways to decrease the values of EEDI and EEOI in the ship energy effectiveness management have been shown. Consequences of replacing marine fuels with LNG for running auxiliary ship boilers have been considered thoroughly, taking into account ecological, constructional, operational, procedural and logistic limitations as well as economic consequences. The summary shows the influence of particular consequences of using LNG for running boilers on the methods of maintenance of auxiliary boilers.
Transport is one of the human activities that increases the amount of greenhouse gases in the air. CO2 is the main cause of global warming and contribute for around 80 % of all greenhouse gas emissions. The paper presents CO2 production based on the amount of sold fuel in Slovakia and Slovenia. Based on the obtained data, the calculations about the production of CO2 according to the type of fuel was made. The conducted research has focused on the issue of traffic congestion and to reduce CO2 emissions by 15 % in total by 2030, as Slovakia and Slovenia concluded an agreement with other EU members in 2009. External costs calculation was made with average price of 1 tonne emission credit in 2016 and with presumed average price in 2019. The case study takes into account the consumption of the gasoline and diesel in transport throughout all Slovakia and in Slovenia.
The paper deals with the analysis of the development of mobile devices and current trends in their use and development. The relevance of the article is in its linking history and present. The article points to milestones in historical development and future trends and development of mobile devices. Today, mobile devices affect all areas of human life, whether private or business. Mobile devices are now able to replace computers and laptops, so the user has the information they always have with them. The development of mobile devices inherently includes systems supporting their functioning, which the article also discusses.
Logistics is defined as an interdisciplinary science, which deals with coordination, harmonization, connection and optimization of material, product and service flows including flows of information and finance. The main aim of logistics is to satisfy needs of the customer with importance of quality aspect and optimal costs. The paper is focused on practical logistic problems within the company, its suppliers and customers so overall supply chain is analyzed there. The aim of the paper is to provide practical simulation and calculation of selected logistic examples such as procurement, storage and distribution on case studies. These logistic aspects are analyzed in way, how are they explained to students in university educational process on school subjects that deal with logistics in some case. The simulation of storage process is done with specialized software called Byron, which is also used for educational purposes.
At present, high traffic intensity level on the roads currently saturates a great demand for individual transportation. Mobility is an important part of everyday activities in cities. The increasing number of passenger and freight vehicles on the widening transport infrastructure raises several problems. The range of use of public passenger transport does satisfy enough the citizens needs and its use is constantly decreasing, especially in the new EU countries. One of the reasons is also the growing sale and production of new passenger cars in the EU, resulting in congestion in the road infrastructure of cities and environmental problems. These issues are dealt with the modern City Logistics concept. The contribution focused on the basic principles of city logistics, the reasons for its development and, in particular, the possibilities of practical use. An example is the city of Trenčín in Slovakia, where a regional rail passenger transport is proposed for city traffic service including Park and Ride system.
