The aim of the study was assessment of the influence of stainless steel 316 LVM surface modification on its functional properties. The analyzed steel undergone a surface treatment consisting of the following processes: mechanical polishing, chemical passivation and deposition of Al2O3 layers by Atomic Layer Deposition method. The proposed variant of surface treatment will undoubtedly contribute to improving the functional properties of stainless steel intended for implants. In order to assess functional properties of the steel, electrochemical studies, adhesion (scratch test), wetting angle tests and topography of surface (AFM method) were performed. The obtained results of the study showed clearly that the proposed by the authors way of surface treatment including: mechanical polishing, chemical passivation and deposition of Al2O3 layer by means of the ALD method effectively improves the corrosion resistance of stainless steel.

The objective of the study is assessment of suitability of the ALD method for application of a TiO2 layer on surface of 316LVM steel used for production of vessel stents. Selection of the appropriate process parameters for application of the layer affects its electrochemical properties, which largely determine resistance of the biomaterial to corrosion in the blood environment, thus affecting its hemocompatibility. To assess resistance of the AISI 316LVM steel with modified surface to corrosion, voltammetric and impedance measurements were conducted. The proposed variant of surface processing allows safe deformation of the TiO2 layer without its delamination.

Examination of the biodiversity of horse strongylid communities was performed on 51 domestic horses from Southern Poland and Western Ukraine by in vivo method. All horses were dewormed with macrocyclic lactone anthelmintics. Strongylids (34,715 specimens) were collected and identified by morphological criteria. In Poland, 25 strongylid species were found. Five cyathostome species dominated in the community. Large strongyles were found in 23.1 % of horses and composed 0.56 % of total strongylid number. General structure of strongylid community was multimodal with dominant, subdominant, background and rare species. In Ukraine, 19 species were found. Five cyathostome species dominated in the community. Strongylinae were found in 17.4 % of horses and composed 0.07% of community. General structures of strongylid community were multimodal or bimodal depends on type of horse keeping conditions. Regularity of anthelmintic treatment was found to be more influential on strongylid community structure than differences in horse-keeping conditions at the both countries.

The investigations concerned the structural analysis of the AlCrSiN coating deposited by arc Physical Vapour Deposition method on the X40CrMoV5-1 hot work tool steel substrate. The deposition process was carried out on a device equipped with a technique of lateral, rotating cathodes. The nano/microstructure, phase identification and chemical state of the coating were analysed by high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. It was found that the investigated coatings have nanostructured nature consisting of fine crystallites. The fractographic tests were made using the scanning electron microscope and allow to state, that the coating was deposited uniformly and tightly adhere to the substrate material. In the work is presented the nature of a transition zone between the produced AlCrSiN coating and substrate material.
