Abstract

Reinvestment decisions are based on basic the economic literacy of entrepreneurs because they do not want to affect future liquidity or development activities. The main goal of the article is to suggest a simple decision tree model to describe profit reinvestments in a general way based on results of a primary pilot study (128 interviews), where reinvestment behaviour is affected by specific factors like risk taking, competitive advantage or business experience. After that a decision-making tree is suggested to explain the process of reinvestment as determined by the manager.

How to Gain Success in SME? A Case Study of a region in the Czech Republic.

Small and medium sized entrepreneurship (SME) is often considered a contemporary phenomenon. Why have so many authors dedicated their work to this field? The main reason is that SME influences society and contributes to the economic development of its region. This analysis emphasizes endogenous factors for success. The situation in the Moravia-Silesian Region (the northeast region of the Czech Republic) in which we applied factor analysis on a research sample supported our hypothesis. Moreover, we used VRIO analysis to clearly interpret our research findings.

Abstract

Organisations should evaluate their goals in the areas of customer service provision, overall organisational strategy, finance, and human resource management. The performance of specific services provided to the client should be monitored and evaluated in greater detail. The comparison should be made between similar organisations aiming to improve services and technical efficiency. Most organisations, profit and non-profit alike, do not know how to evaluate and compare their efficiency. Retirement homes were selected for evaluation. The review focused on the technical efficiency for the years 2015-2017. To achieve the goal, Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA) was used as a specialised model tool for assessing the technical efficiency, performance or productivity of a group of homogeneous or comparable production units based on selected inputs and outputs. Due to different types of inputs and outputs, the method was selected from among multi-criteria decision-making methods. Two models, Model X and Model Y, including specific inputs and outputs, were designed to evaluate and compare the technical efficiency of selected retirement homes. According to the results, the output-oriented model (Model Y) was more effective for retirement homes compared to the input-oriented model (Model X). The value added could be seen in the model combination and comparison between different studies, which helps to understand the transferability of the results. The analysis confirmed the necessity to combine the DEA method with the quality of service assessment to be able to benchmark the real efficiency of service of a selected type of an organisation.

Abstract

cBackground and Purpose: Part-time employment could be seen as a modern form of employment or a type of innovative organizational change. The average share of part-time jobs in the Czech Republic in the observed period of 2004-2016 was 3.9 % according to the OECD, in comparison to the average OECD value of 16.6%. The main question to arise was, are there any regional differences? The presented conclusions are based on a regional study in the Moravian-Silesian Region (MSR) in the Czech Republic where the median value of part- time jobs is 10%. The main goal is to evaluate the regional level of part-time job offers and identify the main opportunities and obstacles which cause the low number of these job positions. Design/Methodology/Approach: The paper is based on a quantitative study using a questionnaire-based survey, comprising 215 respondents - owners of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in the Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic. The survey consists of 16 questions in three main areas: (i) Entrepreneurial motivation (1 item), (ii) External factors - Labour market problems (4 items), and (iii) Internal factors. Secondary information such as the results of earlier studies and regional government websites were used for data results comparison. All variables are compared in the context of the branch of business, number of employees, turnover, and age. Finally, a factor analysis was used to find the main way how to improve part-time job offers. Results: The variety of businesses and different regional locations opens up space for discussion regarding parttime job support. A factor analysis found five significant issues, which could affect local labour market and company behaviour. Conclusion: The added value of the paper can be seen in the factor identification, where internal willingness to support part-time employment and qualification growth as organizational change must be in first place.
