The First Nest Records of the Wasp Eumenes Punctaticlypeus Kostylevi (Hymenoptera, Vespidae, Eumeninae) and Notes on its Distribution in Crimea

Two nest records of the rare solitary wasp Eumenes punctaticlypeus kostylevi Kurzenko, 1976 are described for the first time. One non-completed nest was built in a stone surface and another one was attached to a bush stem; the latter one consisted of six cells. Nest cells are arranged in a cluster and have common internal walls. All cells are spirally disposed around the stem and theirs collars look at different directions. A male was reared in the first cell and three females in the second to fourth cells. Examination of the collection materials revealed that the distribution area of the species in Crimea embraces zones of Foothills and South Coast.


Two nests of the wasps Leptochilus alpestris (de Saussure, 1855) and Leptochilus regulus (de Saussure, 1855) collected in the Crimea were described. The nest of L. alpestris was found in the empty snail shell of Monacha fruticola under a stone; it contained one cell sealed with plug made of glued gravel bits. The nest of L. regulus was found in 3 mm hole of a reed stem from trap-nest; it contained 9 cells separated with partitions made of gravel and mud. The unusual larval habit was discovered in L. regulus - they moved mud from the plug of the cell to its bottom before cocoon spinning. Distinctions of the studied nests from ones of the other species of the genus Leptochilus de Saussure, 1853 were discussed.


he trap-nest technique was tested in the Karadag Nature Reserve (Crimea, Ukraine). In the result the enemies of Psenulus fuscipennis (Dahlbom, 1843), which caused damage to its progeny, were revealed: Omalus sculpticollis Abeille, 1878, Melittobia acasta Walker, 1839, Perithous septemcinctorius (Th unberg, 1822), and Trichodes apiarius Linnaeus, 1758. Th e structure of the parasite complex, voltinity of the species, comparative eff ectiveness of enemies are determined on the basis of observed data. Th e taxonomical position of O. sculpticollis is discussed, its sexual dimorphism is illustrated, the detailed description of the cocoon and some structural features of the last instar larva are given for the first time. Feeding habits of the larvae of O. sculpticollis are examined and the delicate aspects of interaction with the host are discussed. Short notes on terminology are given


Isodontia mexicana (Hymenoptera, Sphecidae), a New Invasive Wasp Species in the Fauna of Ukraine Reared from Trap-Nests in the Crimea. Fateryga, A. V., Protsenko, Yu. V., Zhidkov, V. Yu. - Th e North American wasp Isodontia mexicana was found for the first time in Ukraine in trap-nests operated near Pushkino (southern coast of the Crimea) in 2012. Th ree nests contained five cocoons, from which only one adult wasp emerged in 2013, allowing the positive identification; other cocoons were either empty (one) or destroyed by Melittobia acasta (three). Such a find of a newly established invasive species in Ukraine represents the easternmost point in its European range and possibly the most remarkable jump-dispersal event in its distribution.
