The article discusses and analyses selected issues of selection and adaptation of staff due to the specificity of a company. A theory on the principles of recruitment, selection and adaptation was confronted with the practice applied in a production company, taking into accout the safety of the company, depending on the correct selection of an employee with appropriate competences.
The publication focuses on issues related to the culture of safety and the culture of quality. The aim of the publication is to analyze the literature on the subject of these two concepts and to present the relationship between the culture of quality and culture of safety. The integrated system should include the culture of an integrated management system, which will include issues related to individual partial cultures, for example the cultures of quality and safety presented in this publication. This concept includes all elements of the culture of quality and culture of occupational safety. This opens up new, interesting research fields, consistent with contemporary trends in both theory and practice of management sciences. Considering the practical dimension of management sciences, it is difficult to consider separately the “culture” of individual subsystems, where in most enterprises, especially industrial ones, these systems do not appear separately and are implemented in the form of an integrated system.
In this paper, the results of a research on thin-plate single-lap connections are presented. Such type of connections is popular in steel roofs made of trapezoidal plates and other thin-walled elements. In case of a building safety it is necessary to ensure that materials with proper durability and ductility are used. Connections are one of the most important components in such structures, particularly when in-plane strength of a roof is taken into account. So far, in many existing regulations, only general calculations of such connections are conducted. However recently, discrete and computational methods can be used to build new, expanded mathematical design models, such as those presented here. Such models could be useful in an advanced design where a static analysis is combined with the safety assessment of the connections in a structural system. This is difficult when sheeting is utilized as a structural in-plane shear diaphragm. These require to take into consideration the important interactions of structure with covering and covering with another covering elements. The research is an effect of authors works on practical design approaches. Such methods can be effectively used for structural designs of buildings where the stressed skin diaphragm action is involved. Finally, practical input values about connections can be acquired from the presented data.
The paper presents selected problems of design of machinery retrofit in Industry 4.0 era. In order to show the diversity of applications of new technological achievements, the case of radar revitalization as a museum exhibit has been shown. Ensuring functional safety and staff work safety has been changed into the safety of visitors to the museum and bystanders. Different approaches to the implementation of the safe stop function in both the internal adjustable frequency drive and the safety terrain zone are presented in the article.
The article presents the essence and significance of risk management processes in the project, as the key field for successful completion of the project, in the field of project management. Based on literature review, the methods and standards of risk management in the project as well as standards related to process safety were defined. The risk management process according to the PMBoK methodology was discussed as an example of an international project entitled 3DCentral – Catalyzing Smart Engineering and Rapid Prototyping.
In the article there were presented issues related to the improvement of the occupational health and safety (OHS) management system in a selected energy industry company. The research entity belongs to the leading producers of electricity and heat in Poland. In the paper there were analyzed data on accidents in the research period covering the years 2012-2017. There was also made a short description of the company's activities regarding internal health and safety inspections carried out periodically. Furthermore, there were analyzed the activities improving the occupational health and safety management system in a selected research entity. In the paper there were also presented the sizes and types of activities (projects), that were aimed at improving the health and safety area and included in the company's business strategy. On the basis of the data and the analyzes carried out, it was possible to make a comprehensive assessment of the health and safety management system of the company and to indicate that corrective actions are continuous.
Ensuring transport safety is one of the key areas of transport companies’ operations. Management and organization processes not only in the intermodal transport are associated with decision-making in regard to adequate load securing, which is exposed to the inertia forces resulting from the movement of transport means. Regardless, the responsibility of individual entities in the process and the applicable insurance, the basic aspect to ensure transport safety is the correct securing of the cargo. In the article, the authors present elements of calculation models for different methods of securing cargo. Calculations were performed for the selected type of load on the specific semi-trailer meeting the requirements of the XL Code adapted for intermodal transport. The analysis of safety management in transport in the aspect of decision-making about the method of securing the cargo was also made.

Human resources are one of the factors that positively affect the location of Poland on the EU map of innovation. The aim of this article, on the background of the definitional aspects of innovation and its measurement with the SII index, is to address the issue of the role of these resources in building an innovative position of Poland. Data characterizing the Polish economy were compared with the results of EU countries.

Trade in agricultural products is one of the most dynamically developing segments of the global market. The feature of the contemporary stage of world food trade development is that the leading exporters are also the largest food importers, combining the benefits of the international division of labor with the development of domestic agricultural production. In the paper, the role of foreign trade in ensuring food security has been evaluated by comparing the global index of food security and the share of imported food in the domestic market. As a result, the countries of the world have been divided into 4 groups. The first two groups include countries that ensure their citizens a high level of food security through imports, as well as or through their own efficient agricultural production. The third and fourth groups include countries which are not agrarian developed. The problems of hunger and malnutrition in these countries can potentially be solved with the help of foreign trade and increased efforts of the international community.
The paper presents the problem domain related to data safety management in the face of the threats that organisations of all types encounter in this scope. The Author’s particular concern are personal data management issues, which are of key importance for contemporary enterprises as they frequently determine wining the market advantage and growth in their competitiveness. Yet, incidents of personal data breaches, aimed at economic organisations have been on the increase in the recent years, leading not only to substantial financial losses, but what is worse, frequently resulting in damage to their reputation. Therefore, a vital issue for all enterprises is to make their employees acquainted with threats to data security and their potential harmful effects on the operations and financial results of organisations. The paper presents an analysis of breaches to personal data in organisations in a global dimension as well as analyses of their negative effects to their image and trust of their customers.
